Can I just go straight to Harkons castle to join the vamps?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 6:22 am

What if you're already a vampire? Can you even join the Dawnguard to start the quest to lead up to getting into the castle?

Can't say for certain, but knowing the no-choice-or-consequence policy of Skyrim, I bet you can.

Yes, Isran even has a comment about it. It's very ironic.

Of course you can! Consequence? Choice? The world responding to your actions? Who wants that! I want to do everything forever! Until my instant gratification wears off and I'm left in a hollow shallow world where everything I accomplish becomes meaningless.......but until then YEAH VAMPIRES CAN JOIN DAWNGUARD! Woohoo!

Edit: I mean they HAVE to join dawnguard!

What does he say? In spoilers I guess.

Vingalmo wouldn't let you in due to that fact that without Serana you're nobody to him. It's by going to Fort Dawnguard that you will receive the quest to go find Serana.

That's not advisable as the Dawnguard may attack you on sight. Though that could just be a bug, I'm not sure.

This is my response:

So they'll take a vampire hunter stupid enough to waltz in with the leader's daughter? And they seem fine with letting random npcs join as "spies" why not you? Here's an easy way to make it make sense:

Vampire hear's about the castle, finds it thinking he'll get in. Volkihar cast a spell on you that makes you black out. Wake up in torture room being interrogated. You say you want to join. They laugh and send you on some suicide mission. You come back and they're impressed. The story goes on from there.

OR

Remember when you go on the quests to turn people into vamp spies? If you ask the questgiver why this perspn was chosen, he'll say it has to do with their blood and the "stars". So basically they think some people are born worthy of joining? Maybe they find out you're on this spiritual list?

See? I made two mediocre solutions in less than 5 minutes. I'm sure the devs could have though of a better one in the time they had.

Nice, I like it! It makes way more sense than it does in the actual add-on.

Hell, when Dawnguard's trailer first released, I thought that both HQs would have been there from a rumor, but not that you were forced to go firstly only in one, though. One should be free to either join already the Vamps or the Dawns whener they feel like it, because I know that many players roleplaying a vampire felt frustrated when they found out they were forced to go visit the vampire hunters!

I am curious as to what the Dawnguard say if you are already a vamp. What, they let you do one quest then turn around and say "Actually, despite earlier we told you you could join us, you need to get cured now that you've been up to that castle, despite the fact that you, having rejected Harkon's offer, are clearly more trustable than when we first met."

For some reason you're forced to join the dawnguard first...even as a vampire.

Indeed, very idiotic in my opinion. It should have been like the Imperial/Stormcloak quests. Approached by both sides, can choose which to join.

Why would a vampire go check out a group of vampire hunters and help them out?

Maybe because he/she fell in love with a 'normal' person but can't carry on the story remaining a vampire. :P

Some would say "to spy on them / sabatogue" but that doesn't make sense for a variety of reasons. Are the dawnguard really so incompetant that they can't spot a single vampire on sight? Well apperently they can because they attack the player on sight in random encounters. Is Isran really that stupid?

Okay so I looked it up. Isran apparently only checks for your vampirism AFTER sending you on a few quests (he apparently checks you and two others one quest after refusing Harkon.)

...Seriously? He leaves it that long whilst you've been strutting around the fort like you own it/

Oh well they had to find SOME way to force everyone to join the dawnguard first.

Oh wait, they didn't.

The extent of Isran's plan to stop a certain vampire lord is to send the player off, unsupervised, waltzing around Skyrim with said Vampire Lord's vampire daughter to find an ancient artifact that the Vampire Lord is actively seeking. While this happens, Isran decides that he will chill in Fort Dawnguard with EVERY SINGLE OTHER MEMBER of the Dawnguard and do nothing.

In short: yes, Isran is rather incompetent.

Also recall that he somehow forgets the "kill vampires" part of his job when Serana turns up at the fort looking for you :P

Well apparently he doesn't identify you until he does the skylight thing maybe he thought this random woman clothed like his mortal enemies with glowing eyes was just a totally okay normal traveller.

Has anyone tried going straight to the cave where Serana is 'resting'? Maybe that would work, just skipping them?

I was going to try it with my Dunmer Assassin later.
