Should Serana have been around Dawnguard side at all?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 5:55 am

As I come from the Fo series I blame it on Skyrims lack of choice.

For example;

After obtaining a certain item you have three speech "choices" with serana that literally all end up with the same outcome.

"No, no! We've got to kill him!"

Which is what I have been whinging about with limited roleplay and storyline options. Seems to be a few robots around who are happy with that but.

Yeah, they're happy just pretending their characters are evil, like.. well they're at it why don't they stop playing Skyrim and pretend the whole game in their heads?

Had the thought last night with all the love/hate going on about Serana, that maybe she should have been confined to the Vampire side only.

Would it have been better if the Dawnguard side had a specific NPC with just as much character as Serena?

I didn't play the Dawnguard side and I'm not likely to for sometime, probably start a new character for it but much later. So those of you who have played the Dawnguard side and especially those who have played both what are your thoughts, could the DLC story have played out okay if it was not so centered around Serana?

I've had the same thought. I'm thinking that it would have been interesting to interact with Serana on some level, but largely there should have been a Serana-Equivalent character in the Dawnguard, leaving Serana ultimately in charge of the family and one you deal with from time to time after Main Quest Completion in order to "keep the peace", or something along those lines.

However they would have done it, Serana should have remained on the Vamp side. It might have just been me, but seeing her in the DG fort seemed like a bit of a stretch, much less conversing with Isran.

I agree with above poster. It made more sense for Serana to go get help from the Dawnguard...

Also, I don't think they were lazy, so to say, but they wanted to make sure that either way will work for future TES games.. I mean seriously, what will happen in TES 6 if Lord Harkon got what he wished for?
It doesn't, the dawnguard should slaughter her as soon as they see her!

Also you, if your a vampire.

The problem is that both sides assume you're working to prevent the fruition of the prophecy, which I most emphatically was not. They could have written around this, having Serana confront you about it or something. Harkon still could have betrayed you, but it needn't have been such a formality. Between the muddled motivations in the questline and the fact that you need to join the Dawnguard by necessity to start it, and the fact that the only thing siding with the Dawnguard locks you out of is a couple of amulets and rings... the vampire side pretty much feels vestigial. Probably my biggest complaint about the DLC, which I otherwise loved.

Played both sides. In dawnguard she okay, and I rather not have any other NPC. Her coming to seek your help and the fact why Isran hadn't had her killed on sight would be better if explained more. On the vampire side, her seeking out the bow was a little more questionable considering her father wanted to kill her for it, and the trust she placed in you is even more questionable since you were turned by her father. Knowing her parents I would say that on vamp side she should have been a bit more powerhungry her self. Otherwise it seems like there is too much drama on vamp side. Playing on the vampire side kinda reminded me of all those Twilight trailers I've seen.

She is a Vamp...so she should not even be allowed in the front door f the fort...ALSO she is a traitor to the Vamps so Harkon should have killed her the moment he saw her, kept her blood, and continued with the plan

For me, it makes more sense for her being around you as a dawnguard, since she admits that she doesn't like her father and wants to stop him. It was also nice to see that the Dawnguard can see the bigger picture (after you convince Israan) and not just blindly slay her.

IMO: she fits better with the Dawnguard rather than staying with her father. Especially after being locked away for hundreds of years just to prevent aiding her father in any way.

Traitors betray each other, but she was willing to work with humans (Vamp hunters no less) while Harkon was all about the Vamp race

She believed her mother was right. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.

Well, it's easier to make one character instead of two have many things to say.
