Where is dawngard?

the fort itself may rather than the cave, but I think it may have been the cave.

Think of the cave as the door into whiterun. You just go through it and boom, in whiterun.

If memory serves me yes, the fort becomes a fast travel map point but not the cave that takes you to it. I may be mistaken, but that's how I remember it.

may very well be right, I'm not 100% sure. I just know that if you join the vampires then any fast travel to the forts area is removed.

But you can still go there as a vampire right?

if you can remember where it is I'm sure you can.

There are side quests that involve returning there, so I don't see why not.

They'd just all attack you probably. And if you returned theres possibility you may break the radiant quests for the vampires.

Then again those quests break themselves so, may not change much lol

Yes you can.
Spoiler
One of my final quests with the Vampires after defeating Harkon was returning to Fort Dawnguard and killing Isran and everyone else. I do think I fast traveled there...but either way you can still reach it.

to fort dawnguard it is a random cave you walk into, and magically appear on the other side of in a new cell with the fort

the cave is right behind riften a little ways back.

To the castle you go up towards the water a ways off, get in a little row boat and "fast travel" to the castle.

This boat is in the northwestern shore

I've never tried to swim to the castle so I don't know if it's possible, but it seems more like new added cells than added places you can walk straight towards.

Dunno if its been answered already because i havn't read everypost, but yes you can swim to castle volikhar lol
