From what I can gather from the promo video, he rejected the domination of the dragons in preference for a course that brought power to himself. Thus, his motivations are not virtuous, but simply self-serving.
Also - it looks like he has some sort of cult-ish followers. That's a worrisome sign.

I'd say it's likely that he's a bad 'un. In fact, he sounds like the kind of guy the Greybeards were warning you against becoming.

Yeah, honestly it would be the worst DLC ever if they made him good... Talk about anticlimactic

Perhaps he might be something of a tragic hero?

He has a legitimate reason to hunt dragons. He eats (devours) them. So he must be better than my PC by far. So he must die, that no bad goody goody.

I'd hope it's more complicated than that. No matter his life story, intentions, point of view, or past traumas leading up to what he's currently doing, because it's apparently bad for the people of Tamriel. So we need to put him down. I'll acknowledge him as a threat and deal with him as such, and when his threat is gone I'll feel for him as a man and sympathize for the life I took. After all, had things gone differently, we could have learned a lot from each other.

Imagine there's something unique about you, something only you posses. An ability, an insight, a thing that nobody can relate with you. You learn that the only other person in the world like you in this regard is doing something horrible, and you're the only one who can stop it because only one who shares the trait you both posses has a chance. I hope there's something tragic about the first Dragonborn's death in this regard.

depends on your poit of view. is killing dragons and cruel ruling bad? i'd say no worse than some other rulers but certainly not a nice guy. depends on what his motivations and goals are going to be. harkon was pretty well written(obsession with a propecy he abandoned everything for) and was a "good" villain. if he's as bland as alduin though im going to kill him jsut for his blandness.

EDIT: actually, i wonder how the blades fit in here. theyre sowrn to help the dragonborn. if you dont kill paarthunaax, will they aid him?

I hope he's good. Someone needs to be. I think the Skyrim writers went too far in putting the player character in either questionable predicaments or passive neutrality to the point that they're just worthless heroes. So maybe this guy can take my soul and do something worth a damn with the story.

Good and evil/bad are subjective. Legit villains do not believe what it is they are doing is wrong, or evil.

He's going to be the antagonist (presumably) and so there will be an issue that causes conflict between the two Dragonborns. Ultimately it'll be up to you to decide if you think he's good or not.

he will most likely be in the grey area, up to the player to decide if he's good or bad. but he will definitely need to be killed

Everything is already trying too hard to be in the grey area. :\ The end result is stories that go nowhere. As "mature" and compelling as it seems, it ultimately says nothing.

The terms good and evil (or good and "bad" as the OP put it) are subjective terms highly dependent on culture and heritage.....for example, history tells us that people kept slaves and had no real issues with doing so. These days however we consider slavery highly immoral.

so all those people you mentioned (mainly Martian Luther King as he is the only real one) he was an amazing man and i completely agree, but it was only in our society that he was deemed a good man.

jeez.. it's like Philosophy class all over again..

Mister Rogers?
Frankly speaking, I belive that there are good and bad people, but bad people don't belive that they do something bad, but don't change the fact that bad people are still bad.
Anyway I want Hipsterborn to be someone I can hate, evil badguys that you can hate are usually better than missunderstood extremist

The first dragonborn is a complete tool. He has committed numerous atrocities including, but not limited to, murderization and peopleslaughter. I'm going to kill his head off.

I understand all that (as far as Life as a whole goes), but when it comes to literature, my approach is to try to tap into symbols and themes that are fairly common across many cultures and mythologies. Many stories are written this way. It's why people in, say, Japan, might adapt the story of King Arthur or Alice in Wonderland - or the reverse - France might tap into an ancient East Asian tale..and they make it their own, because the underlying themes are more or less universal. And often the themes are moral.. pointing to "good" and "evil" (albeit in generic ways at times...but I find that preferable than just letting things float in limbo). And philosophy aside, I find it more entertaining anyways. It's frustrating to buy games or movies that go nowhere and try to act like they're "deep" for doing that. That's just being pretentious, imo.
