I'd hope it's more complicated than that. No matter his life story, intentions, point of view, or past traumas leading up to what he's currently doing, because it's apparently bad for the people of Tamriel. So we need to put him down. I'll acknowledge him as a threat and deal with him as such, and when his threat is gone I'll feel for him as a man and sympathize for the life I took. After all, had things gone differently, we could have learned a lot from each other.
Imagine there's something unique about you, something only you posses. An ability, an insight, a thing that nobody can relate with you. You learn that the only other person in the world like you in this regard is doing something horrible, and you're the only one who can stop it because only one who shares the trait you both posses has a chance. I hope there's something tragic about the first Dragonborn's death in this regard.
