Hey guys, I'm curently gaming on my 31.5 inch 6 year old Olivia LCD. However, I'd like to upgrade to a 1080P LED TV. The Olivia looks good, but its definitely not nearly as sharp as my 22 inch samsung 1080P LED. I enjoy playing though much more on my recliner hence using the TV. My question is if I were to go up to say a 39-42 inch led, would it not look much better than my current tv given the decrease in pixel density? I Sit about 5-6 feet from my tv. Thanks

In my experience with using a 40" HDTV as a monitor (And sitting about 2 feet away from it most of the time) you'd need to almost literally press your face up against it to eve start seeing the pixels. A'corse, this really all depends on the quality of the TV itself.

Lower refresh rates? As compared to what?

And how good it looks is going to depend on how good the TV is.

I have a high end tv in my living room a sony, and compared to monitors
monitors are built for pc, ive hooked up my pc to my tv and it doesnt look as good
on the other hand my plasma in my room does work a lil bit better but its no where near as clean looking as my pc monitors
also never EVER buy your electronics from walmart they are made from junky electronics

The "Not looking as good" thing seems to be easily fixed simply by looking through the TV setting and switching it to "PC Mode". Or at least that's what worked with mine. Works fine. Looks great. Has for years.

Sony stopped being high end in the TV market years back...

Anyway I prefer my 23 inch PC monitor. I did try the new steam big picture thing though. It is pretty nice, but I hate having to set it up... Plug in the HDMI from PC to TV, make it so it plays on the TV speakers, and switch the main screen to the TV. There is prob some super easy way to do it in one click.

It's not the refresh rate. Both LCD monitors and TVs are running as a PC display at 60Hz (with a few exceptions). TVs tend to not look as good as monitors when it comes to small details and text because they're not designed to display those types of things as sharply as monitors do. PC monitors are definitely better for text/web browsing/working than TVs are. For games, however, I find that my TV displays things plenty well.

I know there's wireless HDMI connectors which I suppose make it easier (and allows you to play games on your TV without the PC being in the same room).

I have the same setup pretty much. 40" 1080p 240Hz LCD Sony Bravia, sitting with my face about two-three feet off the screen. Looks awesome to tell the truth. It uses a tad more peripheral vision than smaller monitors, so it makes things a lot more immersive.

My PC is always plugged into the TV, and all I have to do is change to the secondary display and the resolution and audio settings are set automatically.
