Dragon Riding (Spoilers, maybe?)

Post » Thu Dec 06, 2012 3:09 pm

Er... this might have been said already, and if it has then just delete this or whatever be it.
Can Bethesda add more control over flight in an update? Or maybe a bonus of the next piece of DLC. Like, the actual flying. I don't like not being able to control the dragon. It makes fighting difficult, and it makes the dragon essentially useless after you've cleared an area. I was really disappointed after being able to tame a dragon and ride it, that I wasn't actually FLYING the dragon, but rather an accessory to it that shot spells off it's back while it did all the work.
I'd like to be able to control where the dragon flies, so I can use it to get places. That'd be way cool in my opinion. I'd use it like a horse. Now most of you might say "Oh, that'd make it too useful, or ruin horses", but I disagree. For one, a Dragon is very... bad for stealth. Not to mention limited landing areas. Horses would be used for quickly getting to and fro between short distances, and if you want to sneak up on enemies when you get to your place.
As for it being too useful... do you know how much work is put into being able to tame dragons? First you have to beat the main storyline of Dragonborn, (because the last word is in the last dungeon), then you have to actually find a dragon to tame. I mean, you can't just use the same dragon. So it's not to say that you'd ALWAYS be able to take a dragon places. You'd just be able to use it if you could find one. That'd also make those incredibly frequent (and annoyingly frequent) dragon attacks, much much more of a relief and less of a facepalm moment.
So yeah.. actually controlling flight, please. I know it's probably more difficult, but.. you guys are smart and creative.

But otherwise agreed. it doesn't really drag down Dragonborn, IMO, but it's not useful and other than playing with it a bit, I'll never ever use it.

No, you can target surf from cell to cell. If you can change direction that way, 2D stick control is no different.

How would that ease my pain, lol? I've beaten the main storyline on two other character, so..

I mean, Dragonborn is great, but I was just kinda disappointed that you couldn't control dragon flight. :/ I was all excited, thinking I'd get to fly over the skies of Skyrim and burn everything in my path, but then it's more like... "Oh, your dragon will handle all the controls. You just sit there and look pretty. Or you can throw lightning. Whatever suits your fancy." lol.

Because he's an insta-ride. You can summon him, Bend Will, and ride him. No more looking for dragons to ride.

All I really want to add to dragon riding is the addition of picking spot on your map, and having the dragon fly to it. It will give some control and more too look at.

As I said, you can kind of do this by target surfing.

Oh, that's true. What about

? (wow spelling was terrible)

Anyway, I was just really hoping for the ability to fly around anywhere I wanted to. Especially for the work it takes to get that far. But dragon riding as it is, is better than nothing at all.

With how buggy normal riding is at times dragon flight would be...bad.

With how the cells work dragon flight would be difficult for the game system to handle. The vanilla game takes up a good chunk of processing by itself, factor in how quickly rendering from entering/exiting the cell and it would probably cripple something.

It's not that it's not doable, it's just not practical, not with the current processing power.

Dunno on your spoiler, haven't tried.

I hear you on your (kudos on being reasonable about it) disappointment. I'm kind of disappointed as well, more because it was included BUT poorly executed, IMO, and dev time could have gone to something else. It probably, in its current state, should have just been left alone. But, I wasn't looking for it, either, didn't have it on a "wish list", or anything like that. Even if it was perfect, I don't think I'd really use it much (or at all).

No, you can already do it by surfing targets. I got from Markarth, clear to Riften. Of course, I got lucky and my controls decided to work, and I did accidentally land once and had to re-Bend him, but you CAN cross cells. That, or it's one big "simple cell" that preloads the main cells at certain points. Anyway, point being, you can fly across Skyrim, but it's a major PITA to accomplish. I think it took me most of a half hour (real time). I could have walked it faster.
