Yes this annoys me to no end.

I spent an hour stacking about 50 scrolls, come back later and they're scattered all over the floor. Gave up and just stuck em in a chest.

What you do is drop the stuff you want to decorate, leave the cell and return.
Then youre able to move around the things and they will stay where they are, as long as you dont pick them up but move them.

I love the house but one of the room is useless because we can't have a Steward, or move our family in Solstheim..

if you don't like the lighting then drop a torch in a kettle and put it in the dark spots ;)

I think Severin Manor rules dude. It's purely made to be utilitarian.

I don't expect any house in the game to be as big as a HF home, I paid for that. If they add HF size homes for free or with another dlc, id feel ripped off.

It's just as good as hjerm or proudspire imo.

The lighting for the place is too dark.
Weapon racks don't function correctly.
Mannaquins seem to move out of place.
The overall design is bad. Barrels for the sake of barrels. Design without any functionality.
Seems like Bethesda still isn't doing what fans expect.
Hearthfire couldn't deliver the housing system properly.

Why can't we have a hallway of mannequins, a room dedicated to weapon racks that will accept unique weapons.
A nice well functional kitchen.
The ability to teleport between properties.

Also no steward. The hell?

Torches. It's not the racks, it's the weapons. I *think* it might be something to do with bounding box sizes. That or lack of "special" racked models, but I doubt the second. Mannequins are creepy, but this is since vanilla and throughout. Not sure to what you are referring with regards to design and placement. Looks perfectly fine to me. Display/dress in your bedroom, extra plaques and racks at the enchanter and smithy, and so on. As far as HF not getting housing right? Are you kidding? It's the best housing to date in any TES. Would I have like more variation on type? Sure, but it's highly customizable and, as with anything, you need to prioritize. All homes have kitches/cook pots. And steward? You're not a land baron in RR as you are in HF, no rights to a steward, nor to a "house carl" as this is not nordic territory. Teleport? Nowhere in Skyrim are there teleporters for this purpose. Gateways, yes, teleporters, no. Fast travel dude.

It IS a Dunmer house, like in Morrowind, made from a big bug. You can't expect a Skyrim style house in Raven Rock, which is now a Dunmer settlement. I expect that for the people that used to live in it, it was perfectly functional. My character doesn't feel at home in it, but it's now her property, and serves as a base in Raven Rock.

Since we're at it; if I wanted to live in Raven Rock/Tel Mithryn; can I just fast travel there (I thought I've seen a map switch button in-game), or do I have to constantly pay 500g for a boat etc. ?

Certainly...

There is a large arrow off the shoreline. Just click that to travel back and forth.
