Severin Manor is terrible...

Post » Sun Feb 03, 2013 10:40 pm

The lighting for the place is too dark.
Weapon racks don't function correctly.
Mannaquins seem to move out of place.
The overall design is bad. Barrels for the sake of barrels. Design without any functionality.
Seems like Bethesda still isn't doing what fans expect.
Hearthfire couldn't deliver the housing system properly.

Why can't we have a hallway of mannequins, a room dedicated to weapon racks that will accept unique weapons.
A nice well functional kitchen.
The ability to teleport between properties.

Also no steward. The hell?

A linked chest between all of your homes would honestly be nice. Or at the very least, be able to link two together, one in Skyrim, the other Solstheim. I get tired of having to run back to my other homes any time I need something.

Your glitches with weapon racks not working and mannequins glitching off the spot. I have not experienced these. It is a bit dark, but it fits the Raven rock atmosphere.

Totally agree with the lighting, way too dark in spots. Even two of the mannequins are in such dark shadow you can't tell what armor you've put on it.

One thing I was told to try, and it works somewhat, is to drop torches in really dark spots. I drag over a basket, drop in a torch, and when I come back later on the torch is lit illuminating what needs light. Some spots though don't get bright, like the small alcove/hall just in front of the blacksmithing area. Torches don't seem to light up the area at all.

Would def LOVE to have one linked chest for all the houses. In hearthfire it could be that one chest in the entryway.

I have got the glitch with the mannequins. Everything else was fine with me. A chest near the forge would have been nice though.

The mannequin glitch happens in all of my homes, not just in Solstheim. It seems really creepy to me. Makes me think of Chucky, which then makes me have nightmares. :(

LOL I use to do that way back in Morrowind. All the houses were too dark so I would get a bunch of candles to lighten up the place. The good old days how I miss them

(cough) Hearthfire.

Good luck with that. Houses can't even handle more than two NPC's as it freezes.

Also, I don't understand why people even care about houses in Skyrim considering the object placement is completely glitched. Set an object on a table (if you can even get it in the right position in the first place) then load then come back and it's magically flown across the room.

The houses in general are an absolute mess were you really expecting anything better? I'll use the house just to be closer to my Dunmer brother and sisters.

I found it was awesome, the architecture is really refreshing and you feel like you go in a house that seems tiny on the outside but expands underground...

Its my favorite, since everything is there AND I get a forge!

First thing I did:

TAKE ALL THE BASKETS! Then sell them to an npc. I HATE baskets, they serve no purpose
but being punted around my myself, or my buds.

Now I'm decorating some, with various items from my travels (dibella statues, orb things, etc.) I'm also scattering
around some of those red glowing dwemer things, from the big dudes, that give off light (forget what they are called.)

So far, I've encountered no bugs in the ravenrock severin manor. I'm in there with frea, as well as my reaver death thrall. I've seen no weapons jumping off racks, nor the armor mannequin's glitching.

I use the barrel, near the forge, for storage ( for my alchemy/smithing set.)

People complain about the lighting? I thought the lighting was just right this time.

Hell, its the house in Solitude has the WORST ligthing anywhere. Light seems to come from no where and its bright as the sun in that house even though its night time. The house in solitude must be in a different realm where its sunny all day. The house in solitude is the only one that I will NOT buy because of this.

Also everwhere else the ligthing in Skyrim is bad, such as caves that have light coming from places that it shouldnt.

Point being is that the lighting SHOULD be dark in places that it would in real life.

I was happy with the house, except for one display case someone put skulls in, I do not want to waste a display case on skulls so will be looking at chasing those unmoveable two out of there. Will have to see if they stay out or not.

edit
You cannot get rid of the skulls unfortunately, the house clean up code eventually puts them back. And there is no way to get them out of the house.

I like baskets...

But I agree. I don't like Severin Manor. It seems like the interior designer was 8 years old with a love for wall plaques. Just seems like too much function compared to aesthetics and homey-ness.

I love Severin manor. All functionality, no personality. Just like my Dunmer Assassin.

But seriously, I love all the houses in the game for different reasons, and while I may not use Severin manor on all my characters, I still like it.
People need to stop and smell the roses.
Is it not enough it's free, and fully decked out with a forge, enchanting table, and alchemy lab?
Not to mention four mannequins and enough wall plaques to house an impressive wooden sword collection?

Okay, the wooden sword thing may just be my cup of tea, but the point is to just be grateful. Better than no house at all.

Yes this annoys me to no end.

I spent an hour stacking about 50 scrolls, come back later and they're scattered all over the floor. Gave up and just stuck em in a chest.

I agree with the skulls. Felt like playing table hockey after I could not get them out of there (tried dragging weapons and hoped they popped out the case *failed*, fus ro dah-ing at them *failed*, and incinerate/fireball-ed at them *failed*).

I love Severin manor. It's a free house and it has everything i need very conveniently organized. Made me feel like the town really appreciated my character's contribution.

As for the lighting it is a little dark. What we need, is to be able to smith is torch holder thingies and place them on the walls.

And yeah ... what is up with those skulls?

I agree with the skulls. Felt like playing table hockey after I could not get them out of there (tried dragging weapons and hoped they popped out the case *failed*, fus ro dah-ing at them *failed*, and incinerate/fireball-ed at them *failed*).

I flipped the skulls out with an ebony dagger, used the same dagger to put them in the tall basket that I took from near the alchemy table, then used the dagger again to lift the basket back upright with the skulls in it. After an unexpected trespasser got in my way (literally stood where I wanted that basket to go) while trying to carefully move the basket, I eventually got it back to the alchemy table using a bucket to push it. I put the basket back where it originally was. I could not move it by hand because it behaved strangely with the skulls in it, it is hard enough to move a tall basket along the floor that sort of distance, without putting things in it. I dumped a taproot on top of them once I got the basket back where it belonged. Waited 10 days elsewhere, the plants outside respawned the two urns outside respawned, no junk in the house respawned and the skulls stayed in the basket. I was happy. Lot of trouble to go to just to get rid of two skulls though.

Now hopefully it was a 10 day respawn same as the town, cannot imaging they would do it any differently. I forgot to check the plants growing in the house.

Probably an elven sword would have been easier to get the skulls out, but Braggen did not happen to have one.
