Applying Physics: Dropping a Safe

Post » Wed Feb 27, 2013 9:58 am

I'd like to drop a safe... actually just a MISC that looks like a safe, at least until it settles, then I'll swap it out for a CONT wherever it happens to settle. But when it spawns, it just floats in space. I realize this has something to do with the 3d model not having Havok applied to it, and I'm looking for a way to fix it.

I'd like someone to either:

1) Point me to a nice tutorial showing how to apply physics in blender or Max. All the tutorials I've seen focus on modding weapons or armor and assume the reader knows way more than I do. I need simple "Hello World" stuff here! =)

or

2) Is there an ingame way to apply physics to a non-havok model? perhaps a ball and socket or tether to another object (neither of which I know how to get to work).

or

3) Tell me a simple way to figure out where "ground" is. I was originally dropping a gemstone (which has physics) , but sometimes the damned thing drops through the ground, and the safe ends up spawning underground.

Suggestions?
