Way too many currencies in MMOs these days.

the number one way to stop gold farmers is for players to stop buying gold. thats the problem though, people want the gold farmers so they can just throw ten bucks at them and eliminate hours of farming. i personally hate them but they are only around cause people use them. no buyers = no sellers

being said the ideas you gave are good ways of preventing them. they will still figure ways around it of course but at least the spam will be reduced

Anytime you have free accounts, you will have a ton of gold sellers.

There is no Septims. I like the idea of having each faction have their own coins. So what faction you join then you can use those coins. As for purchasing gold that should not be allowed and to say that F2P has millions of gold sellers there is back door ways in other P2P to buy and sell gold.

Well, there is no trading between factions(one would have to assume), so in a sense, it would all still be one currency.

the difference is in a f2p game they can just make endless accounts for nothing where in a p2p and b2p at the least they need to purchase a key so the devs get money out of them.

But you can only use it in your territory not in a enemy territory.

Good point. I support B2P with a sub option that gives discounts for new content but B2P you have to pay for it. But I don't like gold purchasing for any game.

There are reasons for a couple currencies, but yes, most games take it to an extreme. Each mini-faction (reputation factions, likes WoW's) doesn't need its own currency.

But you don't want to allow players to just farm low level stuff -> sell on the AH -> amass gold and obtain real ultimate power by simply buying end game gear. Yeah, it is tedious to do it, but people do. More particularly, they also sell that gold for actual money to other people so they can buy the good stuff with no effort at all.

Gold is (or should be) the currency for interacting with peasants, merchants and low level players. Towns and cities can function on gold, and it makes sense when you need to interact with such things. As characters get more powerful, that stuff becomes less important (and the pile of gold you get from the latest adventure can buy the inn, but the innkeeper can't make change for your dinner). So you need something else to buy pay the enchanters and master craftsmen that you need to do custom jobs of unimaginable artisanship. Luckily ES already has that built in: soul gems, wanted and desired by enchanters and daedra alike.

I think farming nodes all day is a valid (and boring) way to get cool stuff. Whatever floats your boat (and doesn't involve gold selling) really.

Multiple in game currencies were born publishers trying to fuel their cash shops. You see them mainly in F2P and B2P game types that place a large emphasis on cash shops and microtransactions. Look at WoW for example. There's really only one main currency (gold) because there is not a strong emphasis on cash shops. But take games like GW2 and NW and you find that there are so many different types of currencies your head my spontaneously explode. All these currencies, as I said, are just a way to mask the money grabbing cash shops.

This is just one of the MANY MANY MANY reasons that I hope and pray ESO will be subscription based. You hear that ZOS? Shut up and take my monthly subscription money!

To explain myself I clearly am aware that there are many currencies in the world but very few countries use more than one or perhaps two types of currencies. And they're all used in the same way.

Expected these forums to understand that that was what I meant and not purposely misunderstand. Shamefur dispray.

What are you talking about? WoW has at least a half-dozen currencies at any given time. They simplified a lot to Honor points and justice points, but they still have crusader seals, darkmoon fair tokens and other minor faction currencies.

@Frak- because gold farming has a significant impact on the in-game economy between players (very unfriendly to new players), as well as the tone of the major player hubs.

And the solution, is to just erase the in-game economy entirely?

If the multiple currencies are designed to prohibit gold selling it would be a whole lot more effective to just prevent players from trading with each other. I think this would be considerable worse than having the gold sellers though.
