Why do you hate pvp?

Post » Tue Jul 30, 2013 2:59 pm

Because not everyone likes PvP? Some people like PvE over PvP, and prefer not to get killed every time they step out of a city...

So those of us who play the game for years and years should lose a major feature we love, to cater to people who will only play in a zone for several hours then never be in it again?

Yeah....that's fair....

PvE players use a zone for like 10 hours at most....PvP players could use zones for YEARS. Instead ZO opts for zones to end up as dead wastelands with only 2-3 players in them at any given time...

If that's the majority of people, yep.

This game will start out with probably 2 million players, then over a couple years dwindle down to 300k-500k or so which will stay steady (this is pretty much the standard for all AAA MMOs that are released now days).

They're catering to those 1.7 million who will play the game, then move on..not to those of us who may be around for YEARS. ZO is doing it just like all other MMO devs do now days.

This is wrong on every level...

I hate PvP because i have defeated it within myself. I have challenged myself to the point where no more PvP will prove anything. I have gained the achievement's in the titles i wanted to have them in.

If Cyrodiil PvP has ranking's anything like WoW, i will attain high marks in a single season and be fulfilled within myself. There will be no need for more.

As for regular battlegrounds and TDM on FPS... they are too below me. If this is your PvP experience, and wish to talk PvP to me, don't bother.

Try Dark Souls if your PVP needs are not being met. I would recommend the PS3 version, fewer hackers and it is better optimized.

PhantomEWGF on youtube taught me all i needed to know. Unfortunately PS3 had no high tier title's for PvP, or even a ranking system. Became mundane after long enough.

In fact... i learnt about the Canadian lottery from that specific Dark souls Master. Although he is prepped for Dark Soul's 2 ( i wish they had made an original title name... sigh... )

I don't hate pvp, I just feel there needs to be a reason to take part in pvp when it comes to mmo's. Just to fight endlessly in battlegrounds or warzones which has no effect in the game world and is in a sterile enviroment is a wast of time and pointless.

Ultima Online you fought for survival against enemy guilds and players.

DAoC it was for relics and access to dungeons.

Eve Online its for resources and power.

These games have a reason to pvp and fight your fellow gamer.

WoW

Rift

TSW

Neverwinter

D&D online

Defiance

List goes on and on their pvp is pointless as it changes nothing within the game world. No reason to take part in it.

Without a solid reason to do pvp I refuse to take part I will just play the PvE content and then leave. If there is a solid reason to pvp then I will stick around for a lot longer than usual.

Not so much for the title, but an indication of how well i've done in PvP. WoW could show you your rating compared to everyone else's in the top 5, and then all the down to the top 100.

While I agree that it is better to have some reason and context, I wouldn't say its necessary by any means.

How many people enjoy CoD and Halo multiplayer? Why are they fighting?

Isn't the challenge enough? Knowing you took down the other guy?

For all i know, it could of been a beginner. You go into a Battleground and nuke people... so what? chances are they aren't very competitive, or are bot's.

It must be pure bliss how most PvPers enter combat assuming everyone else has had enough time to revise tactics and get decent gear. I, on the other hand get no satisfaction unless i know the player WANTS rank 1 badly...

People like the ones in here, who claim to want PvP so much would make good opponent's... Because i know losing would effect them. That's the only other way i can feel the PvP was important. Fighting someone unprepared does nothing for me.

Ahh, I see. In Dark Souls, when you get good enough, you recognize a skilled opponent. An unskilled one is pretty obvious for the most part.

So you want the best, so do I. If I lose, I just want to fight them again and again. Despite the bruises lol. That is my mentality irl moreso than in video games. So long as I get a challenge in a game I am happy.

I love PvP which is why I will spend my time in Cyrodiil blissfully Killing players while gathering, killing players, spelunking, killing players, crafting, Killing players, exploring, killing more players and capturing objectives.

I have no problem whatsoever with Zenimax Onlines design decision to condense PvP into this zone because it means:

  1. Cowardly players that normally gank noobs in starter zones will be forced to pick on players their own size in Cyrodiil
  2. Players that like a mix of PvE & PvP will be in the same area, not spread all over Tamriel
  3. PvE players can play to their hearts content without being forced into unwanted PvP, and by extension when I kill someone in Cyrodiil I kill them knowing that they are there for the same reason I am.
  4. No mini-games like capture the flag, conquest or arenas
  5. I get to kill other players and have the constant feeling that I could get jumped at any point in time while I am gathering or doing other PvE stuff in Cyrodiil.

I dont hate PVP, its also important for a good MMO, but i dont like the restriction that comes with it in ESO.

Faction Lock thanks to PVP, Enemies only seeable in Cyrodill thanks to PVP, the problem right know is that ESO tries to be a second DAOG, but they should try to be a Elder Scroll MMO, open Faction and let us choose witch alliance we are wanna join.
