Mercenaries.......

How many of you will take on the role of "Sword for Hire" in ESO? It's a good way to make extra gold. And who knows, you may go down in history as the best mercenary Tamriel has to offer.

The character I'm planning to roleplay as will be a mercenary but I doubt it'll be profitable.

You never know. You find a few low level players that need some help with a couple of missions, charge them a small fee (since they are low level and probably don't have much gold), and before you know it you are a couple hundred gold richer in a couple of hours.

I don't see how you can really play a Mercenary in a game with a mandatory faction membership.

Are you talking about "bodyguard" or something like that?

For one you can see it as the faction hiring you to fight in the war and then you can take other jobs from citizens and the like.(Including players)

I'm talking about someone to help you out if you need it in the PvE parts of the game.

Ok let me make an example. Lets say I'm having trouble with a quest. I need some help. So, I hear that Mr. Doo helps people like me. I pay Mr. Doo 100 gold to help me with my mission.

I can see this happening, especially for tank and healer positions for dungeons. Assistance with quest will probably happen too, but a well-geared tank or healer for dungeon carries is probably going to be more common.

It'd be fun to get filthy rich and then hire a personal mercenary army to back you up on your Cyrodiil campaign. Hopefully the game community will develop to support that kind of economic activity.

Why not just ask guildies or friends, who would do it for free?

Maybe they are busy/not online at the time.

I think doo's scenario (asking friends/guildies/strangers who'll do it for free) is more likely. I'm still utterly charmed by the idea, though.

We have got a mercenary guild planned

Heres few stories my brethren came up with

http://www.tesof.com/topic-reaching-heaven-by-violence

http://www.tesof.com/topic-throat-adder

http://www.tesof.com/topic-gold-lies-at-the-end-of-pouring-rain

Unfortunately we lost my favourite where its thoroughly explained how my werewolf character ate few knights in heavy armor and suffered terrible stomach ache. When this unfortunate condition finally passed next morning and Rage finally enjoyed the luxury of oathouse, it resulted into unforseen effect ... and thats how artifact known as Lords Mail came to be

Maybe guilds can be made FOR this kind of thing. Like guilds known for having people that help other people for a small fee.

EDIT: Seems there already is. Lol

I've played enough MMO's to know these things don't happen, only thing I saw people do for money was boosting other characters.

I've hired mercenaries for forum RPs before. But that's a totally different thing. (The forum did have "in-game" currency, though.)
