Now, don't get me wrong. The occasional f-you etc can be needed and humorous in films and I think everyone knows that. That's fine.
I recently saw a pre screening of the Julia Roberts film "August: Osage County" and I must say, I don't get it. Not that I don't get the film, but the fact that there were over 100 literally, yes, 100 f bombs during the movie and just as many G-damns. I don't get it.
It was so much that it really turned me off from the film, all I could think about and hear was the F bomb or G-d, both of which I'm not a huge fan of anyway but like I said, the occasional f bomb is funny and needed, but this was so over the top that it was revolting. No one talks like that. No one that I know, anwway, I mean this was the most vulgar and offensive film I've ever seen. I was invited along with my family to view the pre screening and I must say..we were all revolted. It was absurd.
There was one scene where Julia Roberts uses the f word about 50 times in the span of 2 minutes. Wut? Why? That is so unnecessary. I don't know ANYONE who wants to listen to that. Ever. It was just..jarring..
Anyway, why do writers in the last couple of years demand the use of more and more vulgarity? Have we forgotten the last century of film making that got along just fine without that obscene and overuse of vulgarity? I mean jeez.
