No full screen support for recent nvidia cards

Post » Sun Dec 06, 2015 3:07 pm

Quite a lot of, if not all, recent nvidia card users can't play the game in full screen mode.

When full screen is ticked on launcher menu or specified as 1 in fallout4pref.ini, monitor screen flickers while the game trying to find a appropritate full screen resolution for the monitor and goes completely black after a few flickering. I can still hear the sound but screen is black.

This has been an issue with recent pc titles such as dragon age inquisition, battlefront, and now fallout 4 joined the club that doesn't support full screen mode for recent nvidia cards.

Many affected users asked around in geforce forum, intel graohic card forum, Microsoft forum, and EA forum for a fix but they only acknowledged the problem exists but haven't givne any fixes.

Dragon age inquisition doesn't support full screen mode for users who has a system with windows 8/8.1 + intel graphic card + nvidia optimus.

I think it's ridiculous to ignore and neglect pc users this way since pc buyers increased in number, taking up a good portion of user base.

I think it's a widely accepted fact that a fullscreen is better for overall performance than windowed mode.

Since FO4 is still very demanding due to its lack of optimization, I'd like to request for a full screen support for pc users.

That is because no one really knows why on some systems people need to run Windowed Mode. Fallout 4 has addressed this by offering a Borderless Window mode so you no longer need to run a Wrapper to launch the game into Windowed Mode and remove the border.

This problem really lies with Nvidia, not the game developers. However it also affects some AMD users as well.

Borderless window is still a windowed mode, so there is still a FPS hit about 10-15.

Hope it's not just shifting blames, leaving pc users forever in the dark as they are relatively insignificant.

Some people really hate overall sluggishness in window mode (=borderless windowed mode).

That's a pretty big generalization. I have no problem with full screen support with my 970. Of course, people without the issue won't be posting about it. But you can't say most if not all nvidia owners have the problem.

And some people gain 10 to 15 FPS and remove the stuttering by using Windowed Mode, borderless or not. It is all system dependent really. I have seen posts on the hardware forums that I ride herd on ever since Morrowind about this. It is hit or miss whether one works better or the other. I have even see where two otherwise identical systems one does better with Windowed and one does better full screen. Just be glad you don't have to run the Wrapper anymore, that introduced other complexities in particular with Script Extenders and their launchers.

Not all users.

980ti here and it runs fullscreen fine. I choose to run it borderless though, for various reasons.

By coincidence i've also been playing Dragon Age Inquisition today in full screen.

I have to play the game in a winow because I use a sharp TV as my monitor. The game works in full screen but I can't see the lock when I try to lock pick a locked item. I have it happen in both Win 7 and 10 with GTX970 and GTX980 Nividia video cards.

I can run DAI in full screen with no problems.

I use a TV as well with a 970 on 7. I haven't had this issue. It's an LG TV, don't know if that makes any difference.

I don't know. My TV is about 8 or more years old and I can't find the manual for it. It's a flatscreen and runs in HD for the movies on Blu-Ray and DVDs.

it depends. If the TV is "HD ready" it's probably 720p, and it seems anything less than 1080p (and alternative ratios) messes up the lock picking. Newer TV would probably be 1080 native so it runs in FO4's "native" resolution

dunno guessing

Yup. That old and it's likely 720p unless top dollar was spent. My 42" cost me $750 5 years ago and my 50" $600 3 years ago. Both are 1080p. A decent sized 1080p TV would probably have run $1500 8 years ago.
