Bethesda: Please let us apply Ballistic Weave to Vault Suit!

Post » Tue Jan 12, 2016 4:38 pm

I can certainly think of a story reason why the vault suit isn't capable of being modified by BW: that it's ultra-rare old tech that can't be duplicated or modified beyond wearing a liner underneath it. Notice that they're never available anywhere but vaults and nobody but the 81 vault dwellers has one except for the SS. Even that breaks down, though, because why can't you replace the regular liner with BW?

I have no idea how modifiable armor and clothing is in Fallout 4, but if you can't add ballistic weave to armor and clothes in Fallout 4 then I Yes, to all clothing items. And of course to all armor as well.

Kevlar fabric can be applied in this way so can carbon fiber and fiberglass as well.

I would like BW the Silver Shroud outfit and have better mods for Silver Shroud machine gun so I can play the entire game as the Silver Shroud.

Ballistic weave should be available for everything EXCEPT underarmors.

Also no hats.

I agree regarding the hats. It's kind of bizarre that my armored trilby hat gives me an extra 110 damage resistance across my entire body. I installed a mod to apply ballistic weave to anything, but I'm mainly just using it for the Vault Suit and BOS Officer Uniform. I'm still keeping my full combat armor, with combat armor helmet on top, as the rest of my combat outfit. These items can't get the ballistic weave even with the mod. I could swap my helmet out for my Trilby Hat and get another huge jump in damage resistance, which is going too far. My current damage resistance is 220. The hat would likely make it about 300.

I was so disappointed by the SIlver Shroud gun. That's such a cool quest. The outfit is awesome. But even when fully modded the Silver Shroud gun has some ridiculously small damage rating in like the 20s or 30s. I forget exactly what it was now. I'm still keeping it just because it's a unique gun, but I was really let down by it. I thought it was going to end up being a really powerful gun. I ended up just using Spray n' Pray for the Silver Shroud quest when I discovered how weak it was. It's still a submachine gun so it fits with the persona. It actually does real damage though.

As I have stated, though I don't have any problem with the unlockable Ballistic Weave armor modification being expanded to all clothing, and used Power Armor as an example of an even easier to obtain, but better armor option, (excepting Style and Fashion and considering only utility) that also has multiple secondary bonuses that don't even require a certain quest line to become unlockable, I am not saying it's realistic.

I am saying it will not break the game, but if there had been a separate category of B.W. mod for hats that had a lower value and only applied to the head, and if the body clothing modifications could only be applied to clothing that couldn't be layered with armor, I would still have no problem with that, and still wouldn't be of the opinion that it would break the game.

I understand that for some people it does break their immersion due to it's unrealistic or inconsistent implementation, and perhaps if there had been more development time, that is what the final release of it would have been like.

Using the realism argument one could say that the Silver Shroud costume shouldn't have had any armor value at all since it was a theatrical costume, but that it should have had the ability to be modified by Ballistic Weave, and that Stat bonuses of Perception and Charisma, and perhaps Luck would have been more appropriate than Agility and Perception.

About that Silver Shroud Costume

Spoiler
The Costume will be upgraded several times by Kent Connolly

as the player goes up in level to a maximum Armor value of 87,

so one could argue that Kent is in fact applying Ballistic Weave

to the Silver Shroud costume, though it's based on level and

not Perk points or fulfillment of steps in the questline. This could also be used as a decent argument for why you can't apply Ballistic Weave to that costume, since there is already an ingame mechanic that is improving the base clothing.

For me personally, applying the mod to add BW to my Vault Suit and BOS Uniform hasn't broken any immersion. It hasn't broken realism. I could already practically take a rocket to the face and survive. If that's not realism breaking then I don't know what is. I don't play this game for the realism factor. Has it increased my damage resistance? Yes, but it's not significantly changing anything about the game. I'm still receiving plenty of damage and going through plenty of Stimpaks. I'm not invincibly running through the game or anything like that now.

I could already wear power armor 24/7 and have significantly higher damage resistance than I have even with adding the BW to my under-armor. I don't like to use power armor all the time though. I don't really like the HUD layout of it. I realize that power armor doesn't actually impact the sneak ability, but I FEEL less sneaky while wearing it. If I'm doing a quest that involves more sneakiness, I typically won't wear it. I reserve it mostly for the heavy combat type of quests and for exploring the Glowing Sea or other heavily radioactive areas.

I still haven't gone back to the Kent after completing the Silver Shroud to get the next mods for it. I actually forgot all about it. I just completed the Glowing Sea and I'm looking for some other various things to do before moving on to Hunter/Hunted. I'm gonna have to pay a visit to Kent later on.

In either case, we seem to have a fairly significant majority voting for it to be applied to all clothing items. Out of 47 total votes, we have 32 voting for it to be applied to all clothing items, and a fairly equal distribution between the other three options.

i dont get why its so limited too.

if the idea was to prevent from being applied to things you can stack armor on top of they failed horribly... my armored army fatigues and heavy combat armor are proof.

the only thing is the stuff you can combine with armor HORRIBLY poof out your armor, i would much prefer having armor brotherhood uniform instead or even having weave on my sixy vault suit..

not to mention road leathers or even the harness (it would apply to the legs!)

i fully expect this stupidity to be fixed by mods if not by Bethesda.

Exactly. The army/military fatigues look horrible under combat armor. It makes the characters look so much bulkier than they actually are.

There's already a mod for it, so I'm happily running around the wasteland in my armored Vault Suit or BOS Officer Uniform now.

Seriously, between P.A.M. and Tinker Tom you've gotta do like 18 radiant quests to unlock this mod...lol

If I hadn't known that I'd be unlocking the ballistic weave by doing these quests over and over again, I probably would have just assumed that they were endless radiant quests and just stopped doing them. I think a lot of people have done exactly that and never even discovered the ballistic weave.

Just so people don't get the opinion that you really have to do like a dozen quest I'll go over how you can unlock it in about 6 to 8 quests into the Railroad quest lines.

The player will have to complete the quests Road to Freedom, Tradecraft, Boston after Dark, Mercer Safehouse, ( Maybe Conceirge), and the first DIA cache.

My first run, which I have paused, I had gotten to Act 2 on the Main quest line and I had done two MILA quests as well at that time, but I've restarted an earlier character and have just completed Boston after Dark and the Mercer Safehouse, which gives you the concierge quest, and I was about to do that quest. I will instead go right to turning in Mercer Safehouse and seeing if PAM gives me a DIA cache quest. If she doesn't I'll go do the first MILA, check with PAM again, and then Concierge. This time around I'm also starting to wonder if it's just really about drinking down that slop Tinker gives you to remove any nanobots that he thinks the institute has snuck into the food, and also choose the nice option when he talked about the MILA. Both of those choices, drinking the stuff, and agreeing with Tom on the crazy talk building up to getting the first MILA quest, Deacon Liked That and I have to wonder if that's also letting me know I'm getting on Tom's good side as well, and maybe on the goodside of the Railroad overall.

So this runthrough of getting to Ballistic Weave unlocked should happen soon, and I'll pay more attention this time to see if I can get a cache mission before I complete a MILA or concierge, or if it's after 1 or 2 or how many.

I know for sure though that I didn't do 10 Railroad quests before the option was unlocked.

I want it mainly for the Synth Uniform, Kellogg's Outfit, Harness, and the BOS Fatigues Field Scribe Fatigues and BOS Uniforms.

I did all of these quests, and still had to do like 6-7 each of the DIA Cache/MILA quests before unlocking it.

I think we all realize that mods will work this out. Bethesda should work on bugs and DLC. This is for the benefit of everyone.

I may get a hair somewhere down the line, but I don't see the point in modding everything with everything, just because it's in the game somehow. So, I could be biased.

OK, I just got the unlock on my current character.

I'm at the beginning of the main quest line quest Getting A Clue, and my character is level 27.

I completed the quests Road to Freedom, Tradecraft, Boston after Dark, Mercer Safehouse, ( I received, but did not do Conceirge at Mercer after crafting up the place for a while.), and the first DIA cache.

I also had, but did not do the first MILA quest from Tinker Tom, and I had received but did not do the second safehouse quest.

When I turned in Mercer Safehouse after getting Concierge, Drummer Boy said there was another Safehouse and I got that quest but didn't do it and talked to PAM who gave me the first DIA quest.

When I turned in the DIA quest, Drummer Boy said that Tom wanted to talk to me, so I woke him up and he said he now had Ballistic Weave Items to offer, and after buying and selling one thing each I checked at the Armor station and the Modification was available to apply to valid clothing.

So, maybe level has to do with it, maybe agreeing with Tom, but not Completing a MILA, The Concierge quest or more DIAs or Safehouses.

Weave can be applied to Tattered Rags and a Newsboy cap ... not really much reason for it to not be available to all clothing.
