The "Art vs Art" random encounter is driving me nuts

I killed them both because one was going to kill in cold blood and the Synth was going to steal his identity they were both guilty in my eyes.

Eh, killing something that intends to murder you and take your place is hardly "in cold blood.". It's more like self defense.

if you talked to them the Synth just came up to him unarmed so I doubt he would he would have killed Art but if you kill the human version of Art the Synth acts like he is Art saying "now I can go home and take care of my kids"

How else is the synth going to take his place? It can't exactly run around pretending to be Art while the real Art is still around. I would think it would be obvious what the synth was intending to do.

That assumption is also backed up by the synth himself. When you pass the first speech check, synth admits what it is and assumes you're friendly. When you pass the second speech check to convince human Art to lower his weapon, synth Art immediately asks you to help it kill the human. That was it's intent all along.

I've only just recently seen them for the first time, well actually it was just one of them (He was injured, and said he couldn't believe that thing was wearing his face.). I tried looking for the corpse but couldn't find it.

I don't mind these random encounters because it spices things up a little from just discovering a location, clearing it of enemies and loot, and then dumping stuff off back at base. Then again, I haven't seen Art on a dozen of separate occasions like the OP.

Indeed. It's clearly a case of Art imitating Life.
