Potion hotkeys always unequip themselves

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 6:52 pm

I don't get it... After i use a hotkeyed potion, the hotkey number just disappears from near it and i need to assign it againt to that hotkey... and it happens again if i drink one of them.... What is this about?
Is there a fix? :/

It's extremely annoying with potions as they always get unequipped after every single use...

If the stack of potions you bound runs out you technically don't have that item anymore so the hot-key disappears. The same deal happens when you are stripped of weapons for a quest or something, you will lose all your weapon bindings.

Well, just for the heck of it, I'll tell you my personal experience (and deduction)!

The hotkey will unequip IF you have more then 1 identical (name) item...

For exemple: Let's say that I have a iron sword and 2 long bows and that you are holding one of those bows... Then, pressing the hotkey 1 (to got the sword) the hotkey 2 (the bow) is removed... However, it ONLY happens when you have 2 items of the same name... If, let's say, one is a (FINE) longbow, it won't happen (well, it NEVER happened for me!).

Deduction: Seems like the bow you unequip just messes with the list or place (internally) in your item list and is not updated by the game, so it is lost...
This is an annoying but not game breaking bug!
A fix must come from Bethesda since this must be a exe problem, not a esp/esm one...

Favourites and hot-keying is very broken.

Without wishing to repeat what many others have already stated, I would add my own observations...

1. Half the time, if you sneak, and then manage your favourites assigning hotkeys etc, when you then select the key, it clears all your assignments. [BUG]

2. I can have multiple potions of the same type giving the same effect, but because they have a different gold value they can't stack. I could have 20 healing potions with same effect, but could only assign one potion to a key, at which point when it is used I have to then reassign the key to another. Pointless, it's quicker to open my inventory scroll down the list of potions and consume it from there. This breaks combat immersion as I have to constantly pause, consume potion, unpause, fight, pause, consume potion etc... it's better once you level up, but pre level 10 or so, it's really annoying. Assigning potions via effect type would be better, maybe using the one based on how much health you have left for example, and assigning the whole group to a key. [UI design]

In reply to the OP, a potion will unequip because it is consumed, and consider the issues in 2. above.

You can use SHIFT+number key to assign a weapon to the offhand for instance, but this seems to then limit your hot-keys to effectively 4 rather than 8. If I dual-wield, for example, I might assign a dagger to hotkey 1 in my on-hand, and then a sword in the off-hand using SHIFT 2, pressing 1 and then 2 will equip these. I have 4 different loadouts based on who I am fighting, one set versus mages, one versus armoured, one general purpose set, and finally dual-daggers, there si no room for anything else as that is 4 sets but using 8 hot-keys... The system really needs a favourite SET type hot-key, i.e. I assign my currently equipped weapons to hot-key 1 by pressign ALT 1 or something similar, there's little point in the menu itself, except maybe to display what the current sets are.

I'm not stupid... i would've noticed that. But let's say i have 18 Vigorous Healing Potions, i drink ONE of them and it unequips itself, leaving 17 more of them in my favorites menu without the hotkey number near it.

Sometimes they don't do this and i can keep using up all my potions... i don't really get it what's wrong.

Interesting idea... maybe this is the problem, but i'm not sure...
Though i also noticed this about weapons, it's pretty easy to try with weapon holders in the player homes. Let's say i have 3 Ebony Swords, 2 of them custom named and one of them is called "Ebony Sword". If i equip one of the custom named ones and try to place it on the weapon holder then somehow the simple "Ebony Sword" will get placed there... If i do it again, then the other named sword will get placed on another weapon holder, not the one that i have equipped...

This is obviously a bug..

Just started my second game a while ago.. in my first game I play a Nord so now I started a game with a Khajiit... and I'm experiencing somewhat similar problems, but with Iron items.

So during the very beginning of the game, I picked up 3 Iron Shields. Being the only shield so far, I favourite it and put it on my quickselect list and bind it to the number 5 key - just like I did with my Nord without a single problem for over a hundred game hours. But now if I press the quickselect key, 5 in this case, my character equips the shield, then I press it again, he unequips the shield. Press 5 again, the shield's no longer bound to "5" for some reason. Even though I never dropped any of the 3 shields.

Oh well, I sold all the Iron shields, bought a Hide shield, improved it with smithing to similar stats and it works just like it's supposed to.

Then, thinking I had resolved the weird momentary glitch, I smith myself a few Iron swords, planning on improving my dual wielding, which I didn't do with my nord.

I bind the Iron Sword to number 6. If I press it once, he takes one sword out, press it again, he puts the sword away, press it yet again; the Iron Sword is no longer bound to key 6. :|

So uh... any suggestions ?

I guess I need to try and drop the another Iron Sword and try if the quick "number bind" works normally when I'm just carrying one of such items.....

brb.

Edit: Yeah, if I'm only carrying one Iron sword, it works. He equips and unequips no matter how many times I press that particular number..

But it can't be a problem with dual wielding, as the game did it when I was carrying 3 Iron shields...

Damnit, so frustrating, as I just got used to quick equipping all my favourite weapons from the keyboard numbers...
