[REQ] Potion Length extender mod OR a simple item Renamer mo

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 4:11 pm

Hello there ! I'd like to greet the community with this first post of mine , and I'd love some information on whether the idea I have is possible with the current modding tools.
See the problem I'm having is suffering from a mild case of OCD :)
The trouble I come accross, being such a nutbag is that when I'm using the Potion of Fortify Enchanting I dont have time to rename my items to what I want cause the length of the potion is too short and thus I lose the bonus.
The way I see this, it can be solved two ways: either extend the length of the potion OR find a way to rename enchanted items.
So please inform me , is either of these solutions possible with our current capabilities ?
Thank you very much for your time :)

Asator, don't feel bad about OCD, a lot of people (including me) have it!

As a hacky workaround, you can use the console to make Fortify Enchanting potions through the console, and the effect from these can last up to 101 seconds (I think it may depend on your Alchemy skill).

I'm at work right now and can't remember the exact form IDs, but open the console and enter: help "fortify enchanting" 4. Then use Page Up/Down to search for the MGEF records. Then enter this command:

PlayerCreatePotion MGEF1 MGEF2 MGEF3

where MGEF1/2/3 are the form IDs for those MGEF records. Just use one for now.

As soon as I get home, I'll update this post with the correct MGEF ID.

Thanks for taking the time to answer to my question.
I followed your advice and while it did work, I came across the following issue:
While my normally created potions fortify the enchantment bonus by ~30% and work for 30 secs IIRC, the potions created by the console either:
1) Increase this bonus to 100% and the duration to 101 seconds, which by normal play is unattainable thus by my standards is cheating,
2) or simply create a potion that permanently (?) increase Enchanting by 100.

As you can probably tell, that isn't quite what I was hoping for. I did not mean to gain any better Enchantments, merely have a little more time under the effects of the potion, such as to rename my items.

Any more ideas are welcome :)

I heard that if you select Item and Enchantment before selecting a Soul Gem (Or maybe selecting a Soul Gem before the Enchantment) you can rename the item.

I can confirm that upon selecting the Soul Gem and the Enchantment ( both if you have the perk), you have as much time in the world to select the item and rename it to what you want.
Seems the potion is just needed for the calculation, which happens taking in account the Enchantment power and the Soul Gem level, meaning that the actual item or rather the hitting of the craft button doesn't need to be within the time limit of the potion.
Cheers :)

Are you sure of that? I seem to remember testing this out by taking a potion and then just sitting at the completed enchantment screen without actually hitting the craft button and the enchantment power went down as soon as the potion wore off. Perhaps I'm remembering this wrong but I'd look into this further. I'd check myself but I'm not at my game computer right now and so I can't tell if it actually works this way or not.
