Practice fights with the Companions

This could be a very nub question, even though I'm anything but new to the game, but did anyone notice that you can freely attack the members of the companions with no penalty or consequence? I tried it on Vilkas when I accidentally hit him once. I yielded and he said 'You fight well, brother!" As if it was just a sparring match. So I went all out til he was almost dead, then yielded. Same thing. Worked with Aela too. You guys think its intentional? Goes well with the theme of the companions, and its good combat training too.

Yeah figured that out a few months back but its novel and didn't lead to anything as far as I'm aware. I wanted to make a mod out of it so you'd have to prove your worth to the members to have them quest with you on radiant story missions.. but meh you'd think the devs would have implemented something like that.

they are no longer essential after finishing the companion questline... so be careful not to kill them I guess.

But I did not know this. First time I ever met them I had to fight Vilkis and accidently hit Ria. Well all of Whiterun came out and attacked me.

Its probably the companions sudden reaction to realising that you didn't mean to hit them.

Its probably the companions sudden reaction to realising that you didn't mean to hit them.

Then they usually say "watch it, sister!" (or brother).

I think I might have heard that "you fight well" line, but it never occurred to me to keep fighting. I've accidently killed Vilkas couple of times, though - he wasn't levelled up and my character was pretty good with a greatsword, and then there was that time when I "sneezed", well, yol-toor-shul'd him in the face... Oops.

I shield bash them like twice. The first time they'll say 'Watch it, brother!" then after that they'll say, "You want to go?" Then fight. Certain companions will continue to fight after you yield, like the block trainer with the attitude problem, but the circle members are good to go.

The only thing that confuses me, is that Vilkas is labeled as a guard of Whiterun :P
