Pre-order Bonus Confusion...

Post » Tue Sep 25, 2012 8:05 pm

It seems like there is quite alot of confusion about the 4 different pre-order packs available.

For those that aren't aware: Pre-ordering the game at different stores will grant you access to a specific free pack (You can youtube 'dishonored killer upgrades'). In America; Walmart, Bestbuy, Gamestop and Amazon provide different packs. In the UK, the stores are; GAME/Gamestation, Tesco, Shop-to.net and Amazon.co.uk.

From what I understand, these stores which offer the pre-order bonus, are just giving away for free, a 1/4 of all the DLC (packs) that will be made available, yes?

I take it, that these packs aren't absolute permenant exclusives from whichever store you buy them from.

There seems to be a couple of websites (you can google them) where people are complaining that these packs are permenant exclusives, and it seems like all the major gaming sites (Gamespot, IGN etc) either haven't done a good job explaining it, or something is being kept from the public.

I would just like confirmation and full details on how this all works.

Thanks :)

Unfortunately the pre-order DLC is actually exclusive. We do not know for certain if these packs will be purchasable after the game's release. That might be the case since some retailers actually offer their DLC packs as a stand-alone buy as well (for about 3.49 dollars or something like that).

There is still a lot of misconception going on as to whether this is just "buying cheats" or "skipping the progression curve", and thankfully it isn't. What the Bone Charms offer is a small passive bonus. As to whether the Coin amount of 500 is to high, we don't know for certain.

The pre-order bonuses have issues and it's best to decide now which one you want before the game comes out since we haven't been told anything about a Collector's Edition or being sold separately like the Tarot Cards or the USB Whail Oil Lamp. I hope they are in the future.

I seriously doubt these packs are once in a lifetime exclusives. I highly imagine that the packs will be available to download either on day 1 of release, or a few weeks after. It would be bad for Bethesda/Arkane to do that.

Is there any way to get official confirmation on this?

EDIT - Wait, are all these perks in the game anyways, and the packs just provide early access to the perks you will eventually get anyways?

Of course it would be bad. That hasn't stopped a lot of gaming companies, especially publishers, to make bad moves like that that are painfully obvious a bad idea. That part is just Bethesda's doing, so we'll see how they'll handle it after the game's released.

I would be genuinely surprised if they didn't make each pack available for download for a small fee from each respective marketplace before October is through.

No official confirmation, but Bethesda also published Brink which also had pre-order packs, and they stopped being exclusive fairly quickly and are available for sale for anyone who wants them.
