(Prediction) ESO is Definitely Going to Be Pay-to-Play

Post » Fri Oct 26, 2012 11:15 pm

With the recent announcements and our knowledge of the depth, hugeness and detail of the game (such as we do know so far)...

The Elder Scrolls: Online is absolutely, definitely going to be P2P. I can feel it in me old gamer's bones. There is just no way they're making this game to be F2P. NONE. I would put serious RL money on this. I just can't see how a game like this could possibly be made for F2P.

This is something all the F2P-wishers better get used to.

This is, of course, a prediction. I fully accept the miniscule possibility that I may be wrong. But I'm damn sure I'm right...

So... we take your word for it? While I agree that ESO likely was going to be P2P from the start, we really have no evidence to support this other than ZOS was looking for a person with experience in subscription-based games. Besides that one potential hint, anything and everything is just speculation at this point. I personally hope it's P2P though.

I am getting that feeling too, and I think it's going to hurt them if you're right. Not because I like F2P or anything, but just because of so many who simply shun any game that requires a subscription.

As long as I get to try it before I buy it, I'll definitely sub. But there will be a large chunk of people precluded from the game.

Then again, as much as I would like a huge population in the game, I also think a lot of those people might be detrimental to the community anyway. That said, I think a lot of TES fans who don't play MMOs much might be turned off as well, which is not a good thing.

I'd actually take the prediction further: I feel like they will go with a kitchern sink method like WoW has.

There will be a buy price, a sub price, a cash shop and a free period of the first 15-20 levels with restrictions like chat and guild-joining etc. While we're throwing predictions out there, that's mine!
