prediction: who will be at ESO and for how long?

Post » Wed Aug 14, 2013 10:59 pm

Elderscrolls Online will be a great hit and an exciting game for many many people. mmo fans from around the world will be flocking in large groups just to see what its all about .. many of them will be coming from WoW. it will be such a wonderfull time for all.

but the thing is ... how long before its boring to them and another new mmo takes center stage (3 months? 2 months?) or they go back to the other mmo's they came from? and how long will the excitement last?

I know for a fact a very large group of elderscrolls fans are still playing morrowind (myself included), and this large group of people are going to be the main core of the people who will be staying with ESO until it dies out.

We will be the ones who will be paying the monthly fees for subscription, and buying the items in the cash shop, and the ones who keep elderscrolls alive. so my question is simple ....

once the excitement dies out what will the game actually be for us? once that hype has gone and its just us true elderscrolls fans .. and reality sets in, and we take a serious look at the world of ESO, will we be left with what was made for them? or will it be the world of elderscrolls that we grew up with and expected to see?

may your feet touch warm sands my friend, and may you find all that you seek.

Well, if the game can't keep people interested in it, or annoys players away... I would give it a year before switching to a f2p/hybrid model.

If it does REALLY bad, unless they screw up the lore, there's going to be a core group of ESO [censored] who'll keep pumping enough money in it to go for that same year.

If it takes a downturn it'll likely switch to some p2p/f2p weird hybrid to keep sales up, but would probably struggle to keep enough updates coming to keep things interesting for the people who stay in. Either way, it'll all boil down to money.

but if that happens, TES fans will probably go back to Skyrim and wait for the next offline/single-player TES to come out.

Questions don't even really make much sense. First there is no hype that will die down or w/e, if its a good game lots of people will play it. it won't be just "true" elder scrolls fans or w/e that means.

Bottom line if the game is good it will be played by lots of all types of players, if its not it'll be just another flop on the pile. Simple as that.

Seems a little premature to assume the game will fail well before it even launches, no?

I think this topic would be better off when we are maybe 6 months after launch... its hard to play the number game when there arent any numbers just hype.

You are pretty much asking about what will happen when half of the player base gets bored and bails after 2-3 months. I'm not really sure there is another definition for failure here.

Maybe I just don't get it.

Which do you mean?

This one?

Or this one?

Or this one?

Or maybe the one in the title? "Who will be at ESO and for how long?"

Because I'd say I answered each one. I think the game will have really good longevity. The PvP alone will keep me playing.

ESO is being designed with expandability in mind . . , I think the PvP aspect alone is a lot to keep people interested for years at least.

Honestly, EQN and Titan are huge question marks (????) and I do not have any interest in them. WoW is on the decline and I think TES universe is easily top 5 games on the market.

Things to consider . . . How long will people be interested in the graphical style (and how can the graphics be upgraded and enhanced in the future?)?

Payment model

How often will patches and new content come out?

How many FPS gamers will be enticed and join in on the MMO thing?

Man, there are so many factors and I guarantee you ZOS has a product anolysis team looking at all the factors and making recommendation to developers on how to keep the game fresh and exciting.

if they put out content actively the fun will last for years. few months after launch will be good time to talk about these things.

I'll have to stop you right there. A thread like this is fine, but come on, spreading misinformation is just not nice.

I'm going to assume you were not trying to bash the game. I'm going to assume you were trying to throw a conversation out there and it got all twisted in the wind. :)

So, to answer your question, I don't think it will mean much to me in the long run. I think I will love this game for a year, maybe two if it is just mind blowing.

I think when Fallout 4 comes out or TES 6 comes out, it might take me away from ESO. Or if some mind blowing new MMO, who learns how to make a game like ESO, but will more bells and whistles comes along, this game will then be done in my eyes.

Depends on endgame pvp.

Pve content is always limited and eventually players complete all of it. So they either roll an alt or swich to pvp. If endgame pvp is MWO-like pointless deathmatch, then it gets boring rather quickly.

Sandbox pvp, like Eve, is playerdriven content, it doenst get boring as fast as arena-like rankgrinding. Biggest issue will be the gear and skill gap between old and new players. If Zenimax manages to balance these gaps nicely, then i expect that ESO will say on top for very long time.

It will be an Elderscrolls game that you can play together with your friends... No one can predict how long people play, with the content being highly story based, its important to keep pushing new content after release.

Players new to MMo′s and elder scrolls fans will play longer then the typical MMO crowd, they come, they see, they conquer and they move on...

while currently there are things about ESO i'm not digging, its not enough to make me completely shun it out. If this is any elder scrolls game it will keep me invested for a long time because i love elder scrolls
