Light armor so you can move faster, there is a perk for heavy armor that will take away the speed reduction but that's not until your heavy armor kill gets to about 70, which is quite awhile.

My archer character wears fur armor, nothing more. It works out fine.

I play a warrior type deal and I still use Bows, but for you... Try light Studded armor, with a novice's hood. Awesome look for an archer.

depends if archery is a primary means of attack or as a secondary means of attack (as in just for enemies out of range).

It also depends on if you try to make you armor suit your character. I like to give my characters armor that suits their race. For me I put an Orsmer in Orcish, a Bosmer in Elven, a Redguard in Dwarven, an Imperial in Steel Plate or Ebony... etc etc.
I then try to mould their skills to suit their class.

I have a Nord in Heavy Armor (dragonplate) as my first and main character who specializes in dual one handed, but also perked up in archery for the use in ranged attacks (Nords always were best in heavy armor. Why Bethesda change it for Skytim I'll never know)

If I was making a character that used archery as a primary means of attack, then I'd probably go light armored as it would aid sneak and also I'd be able be quicker moving enable me to make distance if needed.

I have a Dunmer assassin in light armor (Dark Brotherhood) as it is better for sneaking. He uses archery or a dagger as his primary attack as it gives a really good kill bonus whilst in sneak.

Archers used to also specialise with light armor during Oblivion as it aided acrobatics which enable them to jump up out of harms reach.

I suggest you take light armor. WHich one doesn′t really matte,r you can easily hit the armor cap with every armorset.

Elven armor. Warm, stylish, and pretty. Also abundant west northwest of solitude.

The guilded elven stuff is nice and it's the heavey version of the elven stuff,so it still counts as light armor but is a little tuffer then the elven armor. I play a assassin/thief/archer type almost a ranger and I wear clothing but I keep Kharjo in heavey armor as my tank to watch my back for if and when the baddies get in too close.
