This is probably too political to be allowed here (since Politics are on the list of restricted topics)

Anyway, I just googled "Presidential Pardon" and the third result is a list of Presidential pardons. :)

Which country are you referring to?

As long as we don't discuss politics, just this, discussion of the topic would seem to be allowed... ?

Seems fairly common. George Bush gave out 19 pardons in his presidency I believe and I read Bill Clinton gave out 140 pardons on his last day of presidency, one that pardoned his own brother too because apparently he was a cocaine distributor lol.

Immunity happens, a lot. Especially for crimes involving large numbers of people.

The most striking was Gerald Ford giving Nixon a full pardon.

Idk all the Nazi scientists who conducted abhorrent eugenic experiments and were pardoned for their technological knowledge takes the cake for me.

Though idk if they were given presidential pardons or something else that is similar...

I would research and get some sources about it but I'm on my phone right now lol. I am sure they were given jobs but I just do not remember the excuse the US used to allow that to happen...we really need the V-2 rocket technology maybe? Pffft...

Maybe it was so they could make nukes, since IIRC the Germans were way ahead of anyone else developing them until there factories were destroyed by the allied forces, maybe the scientists fled to America but got caught and forced to give the Americans the instructions on how to make them - which were then used on Japan. I make up theory booyah :ninja:

They're common, and I wish both Presidents and Governors in the US didn't have power of clemency as it circumvents the rule of law principle (as well as separation of powers), but as far as Presidents go it's written in the Constitution so you guys are kinda screwed on that one.

I could go into details about specific pardons I didn't like as an example but the mere mention of names would spark a political [censored]storm.

Can you site your references please. I'm not aware of any Nazi "scientists" that conducted eugenics experiments not being prosecuted. Who are you referring too (or did you just make that up?).

There were German scientists that developed rockets and other advanced technology that were employed by both the East and West in the in Cold War.

Operation Paperclip was really a post-war phenomona, not a mid-war one. The Germans also didn't have that great of a nuclear program. They had lost a generation of scientists due to the rise of the Nazi party, and the Nazi's never really pressed the development of their nuclear program the way the Americans did with the Manhattan project. Many of their scientists ended up on other war-time affairs as the Nazis didn't expect fission to provide a major boon to the war effort.

The United States didn't bother to give an excuse to the american public at the time of Operation Paperclip. The nazi affiliations of Wehrner Von Braun and his colleagues were intentionally covered up. And Scientists like Wehrner Von Braun, while they may have been aware of nazi activity, and members of the nazi party or SS, did not take part in eugenics and human research experiments. The likes of Josef Mengele were not recruited, though research data from the Nazis human experiments ended up being disseminated among the scientific community.

Found some stuff on it it. http://www.operationpaperclip.info/kurt-blome.php

Operation Paperclip. Specifically Kurt Blome. He did get nabbed by French Authorities way down the line after the US made use of him.

Looking at the bottom of the page worries me though. Says Content modified from Wikipedia...Don't really like that...seems credible though. Will attempt to crosscheck the sources and see if I can find a more credible site.

It seems it is more a case of they likely took in whoever they could and some of the scientists conducted eugenic experiments but there is little evidence for it that is unclassified. Of course it could all be BS anyways. Maybe the US really did only take in Nazi scientists who did not experiment with eugenics. They never game real pardons though.

Edit: It appears I was somewhat ninja'd.

The Germans were taken for their rocket research, which mostly occurred after the war ended. The allied nuclear program was well advanced by that time, and the nuclear bombs dropped on Japan were dropped from planes, they were not rockets.

I know they were bombs not rockets, it was a wild theory with generalised information and some partially true :)

Before you give out pardons, you need to bring those scientists to court. And that didn't happen often.

NP. Not that difficult really, just simply googled it. Funny what you do not learn in History class in the US...never really remember hearing [censored] about it...glad I study history mostly through primary texts and on my own. College History classes usually don't skimp on the juicy bits though so thats fun. Depends on the teacher though. My Chinese History teacher will hardly say anything bad about China lol. Might be because he is Chinese. Lol bias is funny like that. Glad I am reading the book he gave us. I decided to read all of it. The pages he asked us to read are pretty much just the good things. He does not like me very much because I constantly ask him questions I know he does not want to answer. Cannot wait for US History next semester lol. One thing i learned studying history is that no Nation is good and all have their bad points. Which is pretty much common sense. Now I have to go figure out why I went of on a tangent.
