Preventing Vampire Attacks

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:41 pm

I have to make a whole new save file now cause Vampires attacked and killed Ulfberth and his wife, as well as Belethor. These Vampire attacks are a huge problem and I hate when they attack NPC's. LEAVE IT TO GUARDS YOU IDIOTS!

So I guess I'll have to complete the Dawnguard quests as soon as possible before anything else.

Is there a way I can disable the Dawnguard Add-On until I want it enabled?

I have no idea. Though I haven't experienced the vampire attacks yet.

They hit harder than a dragon attack.

I had one hit Riverwood and they killed Sigrid. Deleted that file and restarted.

Had another hit Ulfberth, his wife, and Belethor. Deleting that and restarting AGAIN. I cannot STAND IT when NPC's die!

I guess your only choice is to uninstall dawnguard.

I heard a good suggestion a little while ago in another similar thread, why not pick pocket better weapons onto the guards as they sleep? This way at least the local authorities have decent weapons on them. Not anything ridiculous like Deadric but perhaps a fully tempered Orcish gear.

You deleted your entire character? You couldn't just load an earlier save?

In whiterun if you start a new playthrough, leave the Alik'r warriors standing at the gate. Worked for me, but I'm not sure if they will work when the character get's alot higher in lvl. So far they and the guards have taken care of anything that has gotten in before my character could get their.

when they start talking just exit the dialogue, don't respond or they will leave.

I don't like the vampire attacks because they stop once you finish the Dawnguard DLC. This pressures players to play the DLC even if they want to save it until later.

Whichever BGS dev thought it would be a good idea to let loose leveled hostile NPCs into the middle of a city full of low-fixed-level unique characters that provide vendor services and such needs to be slapped with a giant slaughterfish. Twice. Hard. :stare: And a third time for allowing those leveled NPCs potentially exceed the strength of the city guard.

Be thankful my fellow PC players, for http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/21615.

I have two characters that I started after DG was downloaded, one said yes and the other no when asked if they would join, both had the initial attack, neither has had any other attack's in town. The one that said yes has had about 2x's the attacks in the "wild" as the one that said no, but hasn't yet been to Fort DG. Both are lvl 15. My lvl 25 Assassin (who said yes also I plan on doing the Volikar side) ran through about 1/2 of DB after the Download and is almost finished with TG's mq one more "major" quest then the "city" quest's left. She has had 2 town attack's after the initial... both taken care of by guards before she could even get their. The Battlemage that I did Dg on the Dawnguard side never had a city attack after the initial one. ( my last character I have not played much since the download and when I did she never went to town)

I'm not sure If I am just lucky with my random encounters or what... But I DO agree that lvl'd ememies against set NPC's was a really bad idea.

On my new character (maybe the 7th one this week) I have only visited Riverwood and Dragonbridge, but only cause I had to (sell wares and find the Moth Priest). I am NEVER going into another city or town until I defeat the Volkihar. I sell my wares to Sorine inside Fort Dawnguard... that is, if I can find her. I usually store some of my extra belongings on Serana, but I need to watch out cause I don't know if she will end up dying off in the storyline.

Do you have to fight off vampires or deal with vampire attacks if you choose the volkihar?

And if you complete it on there side, do the attacks continue?

Regardless of Faction choice, the Vampires are always hostile. They're rogue Vampires, not Volkihar-descent.

After completing the last Dawnguard quest, the attacks will stop.

I could go into further explanation as to why it would end if you choose the Volkihar... but that would spoil it and I don't think you've gotten that far.

Sadly you, like myself, seem to be in the minority.

There are plenty of people like carrots going on about "THESE ATTACKS GIVE A NEEDED SENSE OF URGENCY TO COMPLETE THE DAWNGUARD QUEST!!!" when there is absolutely NO need at all for this "sense of urgency", and it is the exact opposite of what Bethesda has markteted Skyrim and the TES series as.

There is also the BUG where they still attack even after you beat the main quest. Combined with the BUG where you get attacks every single time you attempt to get near to civilization, it becomes rather frusterating...

Don't fast travel, I've had 5 vampire attacks in 35-40 hours of dawnguard gameplay. Most of them were on small locations like a random mill.

I should just find my previous posts on this issue and quote them...

You can still get attacks even if you do not fast travel. I very rarely fast travel, and I still get attacks. Interestingly, I have not noticed an attack if I do fast travel...

I never said not fast traveling stops the attacks, clearly since I explained how many attacks I've had. But you will get less attacks and dragon attacks if you don't fast travel, I actually want more dragon attacks in my game.

Let's just put it simple:

Vampire attacks are prone to happen when and if you enter another city/town/settlement.
Fast-traveling does not affect the rate of Vampire attacks, but they generally happen instantly after fast-traveling to the location.
Vampire attacks will stop after completing the main Dawnguard Questline, regardless of faction choice. There may be a bug that still makes them occur though.
