I like to collect action figures, ponies and stuff and sometimes it does cost a pretty penny. Then I saw this for a classic Jem and the Holograms dolls and they're selling them for $125.00. Well I can't complain here I did buy an action figure for about $160-$180 dollars but then I gazed over at Amazon and OH DEAR GOD they where selling them for about $500.00!!! That----is WAY to much for a classic doll, I mean hell Derpy was a ComicCon exclusive and she didn't cost me no $500.00. So what's the most overpriced thing you guys ever bought or saw?

I'm into audio, so your question is easy.

I bought a pair of headphones for $995. I love them to death, but definitely overpriced.

On the other hand, I know people who have paid $5000 for headphones. Then they hook them up to a $10,000 amplifier and $10,000 DAC. A pair of speakers can cost $100,000. Crooks sell strands of copper and silver for $5,000 that have no measurably audible effect on the signal. The business is ridiculous. And svckers lap it up like it's a drug. I only wish I had that kind of disposable income.

Any Apple product. :P
I joke, as costly as Apple is it's served me exceedingly well... then again the only Apple product I own is an IPod.

I tend not to buy overpriced stuff but I wouldn't have charged as much for my bass guitar.

Probably some video game. I am a child, therefore my parents pay for expensive stuff.

It's called supply and demand. Low supply, Low demand = high price. Limited productions are like that.

There was more supply of Derpy made, and initial price was lower as well.

The people who'd be willing to buy the Jem doll would pay any price.

Really though, that's quite cheap

http://www.howagirlfigures.com/2010/09/23/project-get-me-a-dollfie-yoko/

Yoko Dollfie: $800

http://www.howagirlfigures.com/2010/09/23/project-get-me-a-dollfie-yoko/ -- easily goes for $400+ the few times it's on the market

http://myfigurecollection.net/item/18347 : $6000

Alter's Sanya is 1/8 scale and would set me back $500 or so (probably more). I'm almost willing to go for it but a remodeled Sanya was announced and I preordered it. Though, I still may come back and try my luck at getting the original.

Puny cheap doll collectors not being able to lay down half a grand

You mean was? Here at 17 you'd be at least 3 years past being considered a child. At least that was around the time I started to pay for most of my stuff.

I know of some pony plushies that people made that can sell for high dollar on Ebay and they're unofficial...not really worth it IMO but some do look great.

Operating costs for medical equipment.

But all that goes to the insurance companies, so who cares? Right?

IMO is the key. When dealing with things of zero utilitarian value, the price is right whenever people are willing to pay it. Someone out there will buy that Jem. Not you, but it's not overpriced because there's still a buyer somewhere out there.

For the record, My most expensive figure cost me $190 when I bought her. She's currently priced at just shy of $500 on ebay.

Well legal advlthood I guess. I suppose when you're considered advlt in terms of responsibility and such can differ between places. Here we've long had a thing called confirmation which can either be of a religious or a non religious nature. It is held around the age of 13-14 and it signifies that you are considered to be an advlt enough individual to carve your own path in life and that you take responsibility for your own actions. A part of this is noted in that while your close family will continue to share gifts at X-mas your uncles, aunts, grandparents and so on no longer give you gifts after it. And it is also the point at which you start giving your own parents and older siblings gifts as their equal and your younger siblings as a mature member of the family.

Of course you don't really truly hit true emotional or mental maturity until a few years later but it's still a point at which you can be considered advlt. :P

Collectors items are always overpriced, since they have no real use anyway. That's why I'm not much of a collector, because I look at the price and think of 100 more practical ways I could be spending my money.

....I was into anime.

In the 80's and 90's.

Ah, the joy of imported art books, models, and soundtracks.

(I've also played Games Workshop miniatures games - Warhammer 40k, Warhammer Fantasy, etc. Those can definitely be considered overpriced. :D)

I'm currently into Magic: The Gathering. Oh the money I spend on pieces of paper.

Edit: But then if I started selling them I could make a profit. Currently for example I own 3 of a card that costs 28-30$ online. And that's just what I got of 1 card. Then there are other cards worth as much or in most cases less.

Heh. I played Magic, too. But I don't really consider that overpriced, since I never bought after-market singles. Just regular packs. (And then was able to turn around and sell some of them for big $. My current PC was financed by selling about 50 old cards, for instance. But that's really only because I got in on the ground floor, with some of the original releases.)

The poor sod that paid £130,000 for the Rolls Royce belonging to a major UK celebrity who had recently died just a couple of months before the afore mentioned dead celeb was exposed as a serial child molester.

Good luck selling that car mate...

Apart from games, no expensive hobbies for me. And very few games i get for full price, and never any insanely expensive collectors edition. Most expensive thing i own is propably my computer, and even that's from not-top-of-the-line-but-still-not bad parts. Well it was, it's getting old, need to buy new MB CPU and RAM sometime soon. Valve "soon" :teehee:

But that's why i have a nice sum of money on my bank account, despite being unemployed ;)

On one hand I feel like I'd like to sell some of my expensive cards before they fall out of standard play. Yet on the other hand I feel I love to play with my cards too much to sell them. And then some cards I keep around just in case I play with them.

Perhaps one day I'll find myself selling some of my more expensive cards while playing casually with the cheap ones. :P
