Price to pay?

Post » Fri May 31, 2013 7:35 am

My brother and I was both watching two games, Neverwinter and TES Online. We are both big D&D and TES fans so it's really close to which one we'll get. My brother is leaning toward NW while I'm leaning towards TO.

Now my brothers biggest argument for getting NW is that it's free to play. However I keep reading how the only thing free is the very basic game and for anything extra you have to pay real cash for.

I really haven't heard yet what the cost will be for TO. I would prefer just paying a price up front with no monthly fee. I can justify a small monthly fee if that means I get access to everything, meaning that I would never have to pay any more than the monthly fee to get exceptional items, new content and such.

The classes I recognize more are in TES. I have played D&D since 1st edition back in the 70's, but I haven't really played in 15 years and to be honest I don't even recognize the D&D classes anymore. I've played all the PC TES games (except Redguard) and am very familiar with the class/skill system.

Do does anyone else know some pros and cons when comparing these two games side by side? I'm sure we'll only get one of them.

Thanks.

edit: nevermind this thread isn't what I thought it was

Ok, let me break it down for you. Neverwinter is free to play, but the game makes you wish you were buying every possible thing. Its not fun, and they're slowly nerfing the few things that are fun about it (foundry system). Its basically a cash grab game, they want you to think "oh hey a free game based off a universally loved game (D&D)", but what you really get is "oh my god I have to pour a fortune into it to make it not svck".

TESO is hands down going to be a better game at this point, unless they do a last minute revamp and ruin it all.

Pricing has been announced yet, but I'm expecting that it'll be a P2P system where you buy the game for $60 then you pay an additional $15 a month on top of that.

Absolutely.

First, from personally playing Neverwinter, it is a simple basic dungeon crawl. No exploring. Quite simply put a crap game for the most part, but if you just like zoning from one dungeon to the next or doing quick skirmishes, you might enjoy it. It is free, so you might want to just try it out.

ESO.... Simply put, it looks really good, lot's of exploration. Let me give you a video or two to watch and some links for information.

If NW is free to play, even though you are encouraged to pay for things in the game, just play that and don't pull out your credit card. Accept what you can't do and try to figure out ways around those limitations. That's what games used to be like, not buying whatever you needed to fight the next battle.

That will keep you busy until ESO comes out.

And, there are other free MMORPGs out there. Some of those will even give a complete gaming experience without spending any money.

One part of me disagrees with that, thinking it will be GW style model where it is buy-to-play (Pay 60 bucks, that's it). But another part of me thinks this may be true.

Again, who knows?

You can play it.. if you like Ninja Hack&slash Beat em*ups with Funny animations and no difficult level you might have fun with it. (as long you dont care for D&D lore or RPGs in general)

a bit off-topic but.... neverwinter is terrible. gets boring after a few hours... terrible TERRIBLE system where you only have 5 skills an no resources, which means just cycling through the cooldowns.
