Primm Sherriff

Post » Sun Jan 02, 2011 6:23 am

what is the best way to do this? im on that quest where you can choose a sheriff for primm. i helped goodsprings so im vilified at the ncr facility. there is the mohave guy. the robot. i did both of those.

i went to the correctional facility. i put on powder ganger armor. they still shoot me on site. i went through the place just for fun and wiped it out, stole everything. gained karma for killing all the powder gangers but lost karma for stealing all their stuff? it made me fail one quest because i killed a quest giver. the sherriff is still there though. it allows me to talk to him.

What is the best route to take? should i have raided it or just left it alone? who is hte best sherriff to choose since ive been sort of going the good route. will it screw thigns up with the ncr if i choose this sherriff?

It doesn't make a lot of difference. The townspeople seem to prefer Primm Slim or Meyers. The NCR doesn't care if you choose Meyers, either.
The easy way is Primm Slim, if you have a decent science skill. He's standing right there.
The middling way is NCR; you have to go to the outpost.
The most lucrative way is Meyers. Chances are pretty good that at this point the gangers are hostile so you'll have to fight your way in. Then you have to recruit him, go to the outpost and then return. Lots of experience that way.
Since you don't have a rep in Primm, your reception there is unchanged to any important degree.

This is another of Obsidian's morality sub-plots. I have played it only two ways (both unsatisfying) so I can't say what happens if you make Prim Slim the Sheriff.

Your decision can be based on self interest as AI D said, and go for the most gameplay and experience, or you can decide which will give the residents a better experience.

What should you do? play it all three ways—either by saving and replaying or by choosing different opeions on subsequent games.

Given the nature of the endings, I'd say that Primm Slim is the best choice. Neither of the other two choices are particularly evil, though.

I agree. Both mesh well with reality. Meyers seems like a typical sheriff of the Old West (the ones that stay alive, anyway) and the "You'll have to live by our rules" NCR is not particularly unreasonable.

The key thing—and it's the concept underpinning the whole game—is that all choices have consequences, nothing is perfect, and fundamentals of the human nature don't change far or fast.

Since I usually go with the NCR, I take the NCR route on this quest. Not because I think it's the most pleasing....I did try the the other two options once, and it was no more satisfying than NCR. Plus, I think it stops you from being able to talk to Prim Slim about anything else (like Vance's gun), if you forgot/didn't do so already. I don't care much about Primm's ending slide personally so I just stick w/my NCR role.

Beagle complains no matter what choice you make. The whiner. One day I'm going to shoot him.

For some reason I always put the former sheriff in... maybe it's just the way I am... braking people free from the NCR and then getting him out of trouble and making him a Sheriff. :D I like it!

I always put Meyer on, I like discount.

But I did put Slim on on my Legion playthrough just for a nice ending.

Meyers causes Johnson Nash to give you a discount.
Slimm leaves the prices as is.
NCR dude means extra taxes, and things become more expensive.

I always go with Meyers.

I always pick Meyers and that quest is important if you don't have the patches installed

Well:

Meyers leads to a discount from Nash but he takes the law into his own hands (which is why he was in NCRCF in the first place).

NCR leads to taxes and higher prices from Nash but the NCR follows the strict letter of the law. However, it gets expensive and oppressive for Primm's residents.

Primm Slim leads to no discount/taxes from Nash but bad guys do get away from time to time so there's still a fair amount of lawlessness for the residents to deal with.

So it depends on what your definition of best is: best for your pocketbook, best for primm's residents, best in terms of actual law enforcement?

This is one you can role play because there is no black & white solution.
