Probably a dumb question

Are there any drawbacks to doing the Dawnguard quest line before the main quest?

The only drawback is you don't get any shouts you can use.

If you do Dawnguard before triggering/fighting the first MQ dragon outside of Whiterun, then the 2 dragons in Forgotten Vale will not be there. I did DG twice before starting the main quest and didn't even realise there were any dragons in specific DG locations. Oops! Doing it again now so that I can see those dragons

Other than that, no.
