I'm experiencing a problem that renders me unable to play skyrim. The sky is too bright!

After a few moments, It becomes this.

I had just updated my graphics card from an Nvidia 480 to a Radeon 6990. Is there a problem with the card that conflicts with this game? I cannot seem to find an answer on google. Thanks in advance for the help.

Edit: I also have deleted the game and all addons and I reinstalled maybe 3 times and I still have the same problem.

did you do a complete, clean driver install (and safe-boot drive-sweep clean of old drivers)?

I did, yes.

Using the AMD 12.1 driver?

Also 6990 is a dual card, I hope that Xfire isn't the cause of your problem :/

this is an odd one...

crossfire has never produced this kind of thing before from what i can tell.. it's like the HDR settings don't know when to stop and keep expanding and explanding and more bloom and more bloom..

i'm not even quite sure where to start atm...try different option settings for video.

Obviously you were able to get to that point ... i'm not sure how you could have played to that point if it was doing that from the start.

go into the documents/my games/skyrim folder and then delete the skyrim/skyrimprefs files as well as the render info.... then start the game and select your graphic settings...

also go into the CCC and go to the 3D options, and make sure you select DEFAULTS and apply it... then try to load the game.

any chance your using ENB mods?...

Quote from ENB on Skyrim nexus..
NOTE - Be sure to set bFloatPointRenderTarget to 1 in your SkyrimPrefs.ini (in Documents directory)! If your game looks like you're walking on the surface of the sun this may be the reason (the mod is very bright in the daytime in clear weather to begin with.)

Just a thought...

Sadly, the .ini edit didn't fix it. Nothing posted did. But thanks everyone for the help.

I think its time for a little more info:
What specific mods are you using? (you mention you're re-adding addons)
Did you try without any of them in play?
When you re-install are you actually going into the directory and wiping out residual files? (This is something to do if you didn't)
You mentioned you edited the skyrimprefs.ini but did you try actually deleting it and the skyrim.ini to force the launcher to rebuild them from scratch?

I'll say: This really looks like what happens when you leave an ENB mod's files laying around in the main skyrim folder or mixing and matching them with other versions of it.

I deleted the Skyrim directory (steam folder), the folder in the My Games folder (where the .ini is), and I have deleted all traces of every mod. After reinstalling 4 times now, I still have the same result. When I press Tab to go into the ingame menu, everything looks normal again while in the menu. When I start a new game the sky isnt as bright but it is flickering like crazy and it starts to get brighter and brighter until everything is white.

A bunch of us had this problem after the 1.3.10 patch. You can probably find many suggested fixes. For me, turning down brightness ingame and in the ini helped some, but the difficulty gradually went away. I played for several hours after the patch in a dwemer ruin and when I went outside I was blasted by the light. Mine never got quite as bad as your second screenshot.

After digging around in forums for hours I had found 1 guy with a similar problem who had pointed out that the problem goes away in windowed mode. That's right, if I play in fullscreen mode, I get the weird lighting problems. Anyone have any info on what causes this?

It's something with drivers or other tools like xfire, afterburn, evga and others. If you can't fix this problem, then install my mod with properly set floating point render target, if the problem will be solved partially, perhaps i can write specific shader to reduce brightness, but guess adaptation is broken, so screen brightess will be constant then. Anyway first try AntiFREEZE patch with default setting in enbpatch.ini, may be it's enough.

Uninstalling the FX Injector and reinstalling it helped me some when 1.3.10 came out.... completely uninstalling the game, deleting the skyrim folder and re installing game plus mods fixed it for me.

Make a clean install of Skyrim and then a new autodetect in the launcher.. the launcher may think you are using the old graphic card.
