Problem Launching Rage after downloaded onto PC

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 10:08 am

After downloading Rage onto my PC via a purchased game disc, I am having problems launching the game. When I click the play button, a blue colored "Rage Console" screen appears which at the top lists "ERROR: GL_ARB_draw_elements_base_vertex not available" and then all kinds of listed items of which I have no idea what it means. When you click to get out of that window, another appears saying "Rage has stopped working - A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do to fix this problem. I have already deleted it and reinstalled twice but the same thing happens when I try to launch the game after downloading.

Thanks...... 1 frustrated customer

It means that your video hardware and/or driver is not up to scratch. You can try a driver update which might fix it, but if it's your hardware that's lacking there's not much you can do.

It also helps to post your system specs to get help in resolving this issue. Your version of windows, video card, processor, ram tell us what your working with so people can make suggestions about what the problem may be. ATI video cards for example have had a very hard time with this game and there are multiple solutions depending on your video card alone.

Thanks for your replies... good point... here are the spec's as I can determine them. My computer is a

Dell Studio XPS 1640 Laptop with Windows 7 x64 bit
Processor - Intel ® Core ™ 2 Duo CPU T9900 @ 3.06 GHz 3.07 GHz
Display - ATI Mobility Radeon HD4670

I hope this helps. Thanks again

According to here (http://feedback.wildfiregames.com/report/opengl/feature/GL_ARB_draw_elements_base_vertex) your card should support it, so one of two things may be happening. You may have switchable graphics and Rage is trying to start up using the Intel chip, in which case you'll need to go into your BIOS and disable switchable graphics. Or you may just need a driver upgrade.

If it's a driver upgrade, you should be aware that Dell are notorious for "locking" laptops so that they can only use Dell-provided drivers (and then being pretty slow about releasing new drivers). There should be a procedure for getting around this, but I'm not sure what it is for AMD/ATI.
