Problem picking up books and scrolls.

Hi there..

Technically, I'm not sure if this is a bug, or whether I'm just doing something wrong, but I can't seem to be able to pick up books or scrolls. After I've "used" them to open the book, the legend of the bottom of the screen gives me the "Mouse Left & right" button to turn pages, which works, then "E" to pick up, which does nothing at all. I wouldn't really bother, but I've already discovered this it's quest-breaking in a number of places if you can't pick up a book..

Anyone else having the same problem..?

Have you re-mapped the default activations key (e) to something different? Might be that, Skyrim seems to have serious problems with re-mapped keys not working properly.

That's probably what it is, then.. I always map the "Use" key to my middle mouse button, but this is the only instance where it won't work. I'll try mapping it back to "E" and see if that works... Thanks!

Ahillamon is probably right.

Bethesda has admitted that the UI key legends are bitmapps and do not reflect changes in key bindings. For some reason the links are hard coded instead of using variables so the Mouse doesn't work either.

If you have remapped your "Use" key to something else (I use the [Enter] key, you have to remember to use that one to put the book or scroll in inventory.

Yep, that's what the problem was.. I've mapped the use key back to the default "E" and it's working now. Slightly annoying that you can't re-map the keys the way you want them without breaking quests, but it's a just a minor thing. Maybe fixable in the next patch..? (Hint, hint..)..

I might be able to offer a small work-around, if you think you can live with this:

A lot of people don't seem to realize this, but when you see the little "control hints" on screen like "[e] Take Book", you can actually use your mouse to click on that, and it will perform the action instead of making you push the button on your keyboard. So, if taking books is the only place where the re-mapped control doesn't work, you might try just clicking with the mouse?
