Problem with adding Alpha-BlockProperty in NifScope

Post » Mon May 21, 2012 8:32 am

Hello @ all,

i dont have any 3d modelling abilities at all. I am happy to know how texture pathnames are set in NifScope, thats it. Playing around with some mods i ve tried to add a NiAlpha Block/Property to a texture but it always fail to be done correct. If i try to add a new Ni-Alpha node to an existing NiTriShape Node by selecting it and use "Block --> Insert -->NiAlpha --> NiAlphaProperty" or by "Node --> Attach --> Property --> NiAlphaProperty", but the result is always that i get a NiAlphaProperty node that is not a subnode of the selected NiTriShape but a main node itself.

I know how the node should looks like by editing existing nif-files. Look at this GIF-File (contains several pics) if you are not understand what i mean.

Can anybody explain to me whats getting wrong? I am really frustated trying for hours without any result.

I've also tried to move the new NiAlphaProperty up and down but didnt make it to be a subnode of the selected NiTriShape. I tried bring it to the right position by copy & paste branch

I am using newest 1.1.0 RC5 version of Nifscope.

BTW Nifscope, can i delete only a part of a mesh with it, e.g. from making a skimpy armor, or is that only possible with blender or 3DS Max?

And is it with it possible to scaling with it only in one dimension instead of scaling with keeping proportions?

Sorry my bad, 25 years old school english.

Select the NiTriShape node, and scroll down to BS Properties, double-click on the the second (empty) line and type in the node-number of your NiAlphaProperty.

You *can* change parts of a mesh by manually editing the vertices, but that isn't feasible for anything but the simplest models. What works fine with Nifskope is removing or adding other shapes (e.g. remove the cork from a bottle of wine) you can even merge two shapes into one for easier handlings and sometimes to safe a few vertices.

@JOG
Thank you, I was having exactly the same problem as Black Widowmaker.
I've been tearing my hair out the last two nights trying to tweak an armour I downloaded, to mask some bits of it.
But that blasted niAlphaProperty just refused to go where I wanted it. :brokencomputer:
I had scoured the NifSkope forums, but couldn't find anything of help, and I resigned myself to waiting for a new version that fixed this 'bug'. (Previous versions just attached the property to the correct node automatically)

I've just followed your instructions and voila! it works perfectly. Armour tweaked, checked in-game and it's exactly the way I want it.

I'm a very happy bunny now. :bunny:

And thanks also to the OP for putting the problem so clearly and succinctly.
