Problem with choosing answers in the chat interface

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 6:47 pm

Hello again,

Seem to have some problem with pressing the answer i want to have in
the chat interface. When i ask my companion to leave , the first options
in the chat always get's "pressed": "Stay here". I have tried pressing the enter
key and also using the mouse, but nothing seems to help.

This does not happen everytime, so that makes me a bit confused. Anyone
experienced this and maby know how to make it all good again?:) Just let me know
if i did not make myself clear enough. My english can sometimes (early in the morning, hangover, etc)
be a bit rusty.

Thanks for the help!

I have read about pc users having problems with the interface before.
What might help, by default the game is set to use a controller. You can disable that in the options menu.

Im not sure if that will fix it, as I play on xbox, but it is worth a try.
Good luck:)

Easy way around it is to use the up key to go to the top of the list then try going down.

It usually happens after a question or something has taken you to a new single response and then comes back to the original list. The pointer does not change position from the question you asked but the highlight moves to the top of the list, pressing enter then gives you the first choice only. You have to move the pointer to the line that's highlighted before you can select any more options below it.

Ie:
if you have 4 options and the pointer is pointing to the third but the highlight is on the first, moving the pointer down to the last option moves the highlight down to the second.
When you press enter to use the fourth option, it uses the highlighted second option instead.

Get around it by moving the pointer up to the first option and then back down to the fourth.

An easy fix for this bug would either make the pointer move to the highlighted option or the highlight move to the pointer so they are always aligned together. I would prefer to see the pointer always aligned to the highlight so if you use the mouse to select, the pointer would go there too.

Mouse tracking is still buggy. Now I use a controller and it works fine

The interface can on occasion be a little sluggish when using the mouse, it is true...

It's a known problem and I doubt it will ever be fixed. The game was designed to be used with a controller while mouse and keyboard were just an afterthought.
Disabling controller support and vibration does help, though.

I'd also recommend using the arrow / enter keys to scroll through dialogue selections and pick them. Using the mouse has an occasional chance of picking the incorrect option otherwise, even if you've disabled the "enable controller / vibration" options beforehand.

I always use the arrow keys in menus now. Ever since an incident in which my game apparently decided my character was going to marry Sorex Vinius, whether I wanted to or not.

Never use interface elements with the mouse, use keyboard instead. Everything can be done with the keyboard, much more accurately than with the mouse. Though dialogue selection can sometimes still be wrong with the keyboard, so pay attention to what choice is highlighted.

Skyrim has the crappiest menu mouse support i've ever seen. Though i have seen console ports that don't support mouse at all :hehe:
