Problems with a quest - help please

Post » Thu Jan 03, 2013 10:05 pm

So, I just found Kematu,

I told him to meet me with saadia at the stable.

I go get saadia, at night, then I go out of the bar and there is a VAMPIRES attack. The first time, a Merchant lady died. So I reloaded and attack the vampyre before they kill anyone in whiterun.

I go outside, and apart from my stray dog dissapearing, Kematu is dead already on the ground and I cannot complete the quest.

What the ????

I'm level 9.

Dawnguard's Vampire attacks at level 9? I thought they started past level 10... anyways, I hope you have an earlier save and this time, don't enter the city at night.

To make sure nothing bad happens to Kematu, don't even leave the cave you found him in, before it's at least 10 in the morning. Should do the job.

PS: Till you're done with Dawnguard's main questline, don't enter any city at night time. There's a high chance you'll lose quest related NPCs/merchants and you don't want that.

I too thought vampires only began attacking at level 10.

Oh well. Go back and load a previous save. Before starting the quest back up, return to that location at the same time and slaughter those filthy blood svckers so they won't have a chance to attack you during the quest. Also, don't fast travel directly to the location you need to be. Appear at a nearby location then walk to where you need to go. Vampires enjoy appearing upon you fast traveling, so doing what I stated will give you a shot to slay any ambushing night walkers.

Ok I'm glad to receive theses advices.

I've read other thread about this also and I have a good idea what to do. Theses vampires attack appear annoying but I think I'll beat dawnguard sooner than I expected.
Put some challenge in the games actually. I think I'll Save a lot...

Do you guys know if theses issues were adressed to besthesda and/or if they inted to tweak this situation in future patches ?

Thanks again, great community here !

I don't think so. See, you're supposed to be ambushed and get the feeling that Vampires decided to crawl out of their caves, in a very bad mood :P

I've seen posts (http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1434333-disabling-dawnguard/page__view__findpost__p__22019303 for example) of vampire attacks starting at level 8.

You don't say what platform you're on - for PC there are mods http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/21615 that may stop attacks on cities.

Yeah, make sure you save early and often. Have you ever fast traveled somewhere and found that area being attacked by vampires and found innocent civilians dead? Like maybe people you'd much rather keep alive? Well what I do is just keep loading that save back up until I slayed all the vampires before they killed any innocent people. It usually only takes one reload but it's worth it to keep certain people alive.

If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask. We enjoy helping people out around here.

Thank you. I'm not sure if this is worth it ?

Of course I'm on PC. I always play on PC all my games. :)

I'm gonna load my games tomorrow just before talking to Kematu in his cave I have a savegame right there. And I'll come back in town in the morning only lol...

I noticed that aside the body of the dead kematu in the stable (After the vampire attack in town), there was a Death hound body aside of it. Strange ???

The death hound managed to take Kematu out...? That's strange indeed...

Be careful though because vampires will wear hoods and robes so they can stalk and attack in the daylight too. Crafty little bastards,

Always be wary when you see suspicious looking characters. The vampires will send scouts in to towns and other areas. They go under the name Mysterious Traveler. Once you've initiated contact with these guys they scream which alerts their nearby vampires. They'll spawn gargoyles too. If you ever see a suspicious hooded character don't hesitate to draw your sword.
