Problems with Rage video settings

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 8:56 am

I got a few problems with Rage and I am using patch 1.2. It seems like Rage doesn't autodetect my hardware correctly.

1. I can't find the option to change the refresh rate. Usually games uses the same refresh rate as Windows, but it Rage it always switches to 60 hz. I am using a CRT monitor and after a few minutes my eyes are bleeding.

2. When I enable texture detail. It says I have insufficient number of cores although I have a quad core cpu at 3 Ghz. The release notes for patch 1.2 say that you need a quad core, so it seems like it isn't detecting all my cores.

3. When i try to enable gpu transcode it says "Can't enable GPU Transcoding due to insufficient memory or unsupported hardware". I have 4 Gb system memory and my GPU is a Geforce 8800 GTS with 640 MB. I thought that my GPU was compatible. I can run other games with GPU physix without any problems.

GPU transcoding is not the same as GPU physics, they do completely different things.

1. The game internally refreshes at 60 Hz and that cannot be changed without the timescale going out of sync. It's an unfortunate casualty for users with refresh rates above 60 Hz.

2. The release notes are wrong - you need a 6-core CPU for Texture Detail

3. Unsure why GPU Transcode won't enable (not the same as PhysX fyi).

I noticed that if I play in windowed mode I get whatever refresh rate I am using in windows. svcks to play in windowed mode though.

I think there is a cvar:
seta com_maxfps "XX"
Try to put this in your shortcut or steam launch options.

Post your dxdiag according the format in this thread:

Sparse threads and informations doesn't help the situation.
