Professions for your kids

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 8:23 pm

If you finish the quest 'Innocence Lost' and speak to Aventus afterwards, he says: "When I grow up, I'm going to be an assassin. That way I can help lots of children, just like you."

This, plus the recent announcement of the Hearthfire DLC, made me think: wouldn't it be cool if you could bring certain children up and then get them to join a profession? Let's say they have an accelerated age rate so they do actually grow up, and then for example you can invite Aventus to the Dawnstar Sanctuary and from then on he lives there, wears the Shrouded Armour and is available as a companion for you.

Another example could be another child, and you let him become a Companion. Then he moves to Jorrvaskr, wears the 'Wolf Armour' and again becomes an available companion. Similarily, a kid could become a Mage or a Thief.

Really, this idea came to me because let's face it, what's the point of having a kid if all he does it sit at home and need protecting? I know it's more of an RP thing, but it would make more sense if they grew up and started working for a faction. I know there could potentially be a lot of problems but it would be pretty damn awesome.

i'd say no, because do you realize how old you'd be at that time? i'd rather be a young handsome adventure then some old man. Also if you did this then everyone in the world would need to age.

I wouldn't mind giving the kids odd jobs to do while adventuring with me. Them being under my apprenticeship, maybe. Also, let us take them on hunting trips!

Check the trailer, there's a dialogue option for "go do your chores." So maybe you can have Aventus go do chores for Nazir?

I might tie them to the grain mill and make a few Conans out of them.

Actually, there are games that have done that have a child thing right that still let you adventure around. Harvest Moon did. If you've ever played Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life, you will notice that the child does eventually become the character you play as. This would not work in TES, though. TES is not about the simple things. It is a giant adventure.

There is another game that sort of did the game kids thing right, but it was a console strategy game that most people thought was too weird. That game is Tail of the Sun for PS1. It, again, is a different kind of game. It's more like a sandbox adventure with strategy mixed in. It also had the grow old thing.

There's not really a need for the have a kid thing in TES. It just doesn't work right within the idea of the series. The premise is adventure. This isn't a strategy game with cavemen in it. It isn't a farming sim. It's a sandbox RPG that puts you in places to adventure in.

I dont think kids will age but it would be cool if you could adopt Aventus. Especially if you are in the Dark Brotherhood.

I think kids should be given chores or jobs, since you can give them an allowance. It would be nice if kids chopped wood or smelted ore, or harvested alchemy ingredients.

You will have to ground your kids for dabbling in necromancy, like accidentally bringing the beloved late pet back to life.

Will they add a "smack" dialogue option? Lol
