Proof!

Has anyone witnessed any radiant AI?

Or, perhaps it is happening all around us without us knowing.
Or, perhaps it was a lie?

Thoughts?

Yeah... almost everything an NPC does is governed by Radiant AI, it was used in Oblivion too. I've even had NPCs returned things I dropped in cities.

Well the proof of radiant story is all those random quests given to you by guilds.

well to be fair the only experience i have of it is with the first companion quest...alot of people are listing Sven as the charcter to be bullied; however i had to duff up a bloke over in Rorikstead.
so its certainly a quest change but how or why i coudlnt tell you..dunno if Sven is dead somewhere ill have to check

The only thing of the Radiant AI I have seen so far is a Nord get down and boogie. Made my wife laugh.

I think it's like Oblivion all over again reconcering the Radiant AI. By that I mean by Todd Howard just spewing crap out of his mouth once again. I did warn against this, that he hypes up way to much and not deliver.

That said, Skyrim I still find Awsome and a great game. I just lernt not to listen to Todd and didn't come ot the forums much to get hyped up much. I think it worked. :)

i love these little robots <3

But yes, Todd is a hype machine. I remember in Oblivion he hyped how each dungeon is unique.
We all know how that turned out.

For skyrim he even hyped up how snow "naturally piles up", when really it just paints a white texture on the ground, like you would in photoshop. Neat, but not something to hype up at all, Todd.

Well I did have people returning things I dropped, some quests out there that seemed entirely random. And once I had a kidnapp quest, where the person kidnapped was somebody I had spend a lot of time with (buying and selling stuff) I have no idea if any of these things are because of radiant AI though. It's hard to say for sure, at least until I play through it a second time and see if they happen again. But for now, it does seem like the world changes more then it did in previous games.

Firstly 'Radiant AI' was in Oblivion. In Skyrim you have 'Radiant Story' which is similar but different, it's not just the AI. Secondly what do you want as "proof"? The code?

Thirdly, "Radiant" is, just like every other aspect of every game, a name that players have decided to make their own minds up about, and if Radiant Story doesn't fulfill every aspect of their assumptions and fantasies, it's a "lie" or "false advertising"

Next, each thing you do is considered by the system. The game stores info about what you do, where you did it, where you've (and where you haven't been) and allows the story to change based on that

To summarize, not only is it happening without you knowing, but that's the entire point. It wouldn't be very immersive if you got on-screen messages that read "Radiant story now determining the outcome of your actions", now would it.

I dropped some items in Riverwood and a female politely asked what I was doing with them and if she could have them, I've heard NPC's will fight over dropped items as well.

So its okay to hype that feature, but when someone expects to notice it hes wrong
alright

A lot of people clearly don't realize what Radiant AI actually is, play a game like Dragon Age where everyone just stands in one spot until something changes, then play OB or Skyrim, if you don't understand it then you apparently never will.

If you know Bethesda for long enough you don't pay any attention to the hype machine of Pete Hines and Todd Howard anymore. Having said that, Skyrim is still a good solid game.

I dropped a weapon and a guard told me off.

I was doing some leatherworking and it put me over the encumbrance limit, so I dropped a mace that was of no use and a passing guard said I shouldn't leave weapons on the ground as children could pick them up. IIRC there was two options, so I apologised and the guard left. I didn't pick the weapon up.

You know it could always be worse, we could be listening to Peter [censored] Molyneux drone on about revolutionizing the industry every other year.

Nothing so far that's above standard NPC behaviour. Walking around aimlessly, talking to each other. Sometimes they adress each other properly by name or you see otherwise that they know who the other one is, but that could be scripted. But I haven't exactly toyed around with the NPCs like leaving stuff on the ground.

On the other hand, if I want to see NPCs reactions there should be something to react to - but I cannot imagine much else besides "enemy nearby", "player character nearby", "NPC nearby", "item lying around" and "bed and/or job location nearby".

@halthor

First off, I know what radiant story/ai is, the name doesn't matter it's the message I am sending out. I was wondering if anyone noticed anything exceptionally radiant. Something that Todd said would happen that happened etc. etc.

hmm, now that makes me wonder if I experienced radiant story... I was trying out my new whirlwind speed shout running around town and a guard came up to me and asked me to stop, as it was making people nervous.. lol

But thats not radiant story, or radiant AI, its very simple.
Guard sees you make a shout, theres a chance of it telling you to stop.

Theres small quests. The cookie cutter ones. I've gotten alot that I can tell are radiant story based. Any bounties really, the letters from a friend. Once, as soon a i bought an enchanted pair of dwemer boots i got a letter from a guy offering 1.5 times what it's worth, too bad I spent a ton more to get them... Nvm i got elven boots with the same enchant, +40 to carry cap. 10weight +40 ench= +30 vs 1 weight +40 =+39 ftw!

don't know if this is directly related to radiant ai, but its just something cool that happened.

I was out in these rocky plains mining and picking flowers and noticed over a hill fireballs flying around so went over to see what was up. when I got there I saw it was a novice fire mage and novice ice mage dueling each other. so I stood there and watched for a bit to see who would win. it was neck and neck for a while and I started to get closer. a little too close cause the fire mage turned on me. I shouted to knock him down so I could run. the ice mage in turn finished him off and then tried to kill me too. so I killed her and then I stole both their clothes :P

I've had a few contracts taken on my characters life, one of the letters I got off the mercs body said to kill me because i killed his beloved Voada.
