Prototype or Prototype 2 ?

Post » Fri Jun 29, 2012 8:20 pm

which is more fun / looks cooler and feels more powerful ?

i watched a bit of a review for P2 and said that some of the abilities have been nerfed since the 1st game and that make me wonder if its as good as the 1st one

like if you remember the game Destroy All Humans! in that game the telekenises was godly and could chuck people and tanks everywhere... but second one came around and you could barely levitate a person across the street

The abilities in prototype 2 were not nerfed, they flat out just cut most of them from the game and mostly changed how the ones that survived the cut work a tiny bit. The controls are a lot more simple (which sounds like a good thing but by simple I mean they simply removed most of the attack variations). Improvement wise the claws power is much better in prototype2. Minor spoiler
Spoiler
before you get your powers you actually kill brawlers faster with a regular knife than you can when you get the claws power
Personally without getting into plot points and stuff I think the first one was a lot more fun, prototype2 to me feels like a large DLC pack rather than a full game.

Also the game makers have admitted they went with the main character in Prototype2 because they ran out of time to actually do anything else. This kind of sets the tone for the rest of the game it's not as ambitious as the first.

I know this is going to sound horribly racist and politically incorrect and all, but I didn't even bother to try and play Prototype 2 because you have to play a black guy. Same thing with GTA San Andreas (though I tried to enjoy that for a few hours). I enjoy games best if I can feel like I am the main character, and that totally killed the immersion for me. I have the same thing with female protagonists for instance, it has to be a damn good game for me to enjoy that. Must be horrible for non-white people who feel like me, with so many videogame protagonists being white.

Pretty much some of this.

i think if you get the second new it comes with a code to get the first one free. I personally enjoyed both of them, although heller gets a few cool powers like pack leader and bio bomb. Plus tenderles is awesome.

I only own the first one, I've played it for hours but hardly done any missions - I just glide around the city and run up buildings and stuff :P

Wait, they actually managed to dumb down Prototype? That's like removing the jump button from Mario and giving him a .22.

I wouldn't call that racist, but that is totally inane. First off the character isn't exactly a black guy he's not even human anymore, also he's a shape shifter you are not stuck as a black guy. I don't know how you can be immersed as playing a white mutant but not a black one it just seems laughable. I mean it's like would you have any trouble playing a super buff muscular looking character guy in Elder Scrolls if you were over weight in real life?

I wouldn't call it dumbed down it doesn't take a genius to play any video games, but the lengthy tutorial process of the game left me feeling like the game had no faith in the player to understand about clicking a button to do something. (especially when it came to new game+ files.)

I don't know how it works in Prototype 2, but in the first one you'd shift out of your disguise as soon as you used a power, so that wouldn't be very useful. And it's not about what I look like in real life, it's what I'd want to look like. Though, without boasting too much, I don't look too bad myself. :P

Still, from what I'm reading about the gameplay here, I wouldn't enjoy Prototype 2 if James Heller looked like Hugh Jackman. While I enjoyed Prototype immensely, the gameplay wasn't exactly very complex. Dumbing it down sounds like a horrible idea.

James Heller isn't black. Here is a comparison between Mercer and him http://www.google.com/imgres?q=james+heller+prototype+2&hl=en&sa=X&rlz=1C1CHRG_enUS462US462&biw=1440&bih=781&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnso&tbnid=RADB8ycBYanCWM:&imgrefurl=http://www.unigamesity.com/prototype-2-ending-heller-vs-mercer-final-battle-watch-video-here/&docid=A4PwJ4K_peXV_M&imgurl=http://www.unigamesity.com/wp-content/uploads//2012/04/prototype-2-heller-mercer.jpg&w=480&h=300&ei=wDjmT96NKZSY8gThjImQAQ&zoom=1

They have the same skin tone. Unless i'm completely wrong here :P he looks white to me.

It's a case of http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ButNotTooBlack as TVTropes calls it. Heller is supposed to be black but because that would supposedly make the game unappealing to closet racist white men his color can be more accurately described as "dipped in tea" making him more a white guy with a good tan and some african-american facial features.

So, how does the story of the sequel compare to Prototype 1? I know the story of the first part got a lot of hate, but I thought that for a video game story it was great. Which surprised me, as zombie apocalypse stories usually don't interest me much. Was there anything related to

Spoiler
Elizabeth Green's mutant baby?

I thought that part of the story had a lot of potential for a sequel.

Only the fact that word Pariah pops up during a cinematic. Pariah doesn't appear in-game and no one talks about him.

As for the story, I'd say that Heller's personal narrative is in many ways better handled than Mercer's. On the other hand, Alex Mercer's character has been torpedoed into muahahaha villainy and Blackwatch has jumped off the villain deep end they were already at and fallen into the villain grand canyon. Alex Mercer's plot for James Heller also doesn't really make that much sense, since Alex is so hands off with Heller during the story's first act that we never really get to see what Alex's real plans for Heller even were (unless he just wanted Heller to make a mess of things in the yellow zone). The game also doesn't really expand any of the background information about the conspiracy.

I guess you could say that Heller's a better main character, but everything else is worse.

That's too bad. About the changes in Alex Mercer's character in particular, he wasn't such a bad guy in the first game. Or a good thing perhaps, it means that I'll have more money to spend on other stuff.

And how the hell can they possibly portray Blackwatch as more villainy than before.

Remember how you got the claw powers in Prototype 1 by fighting a Hunter? In Prototype 2, you also get your claw power by fighting a "hunter" (now called Brawlers), only this time, it's one that Blackwatch intentionally released into a yellow zone survivor camp.

he wasn't that good, i mean really? He was the thing from that movie THE THING. Plus any redeeming characteristics probably got washed away from eating all the evil brains

Well I was just trying to think of a video game cliche (super buff characters was the first thing that came to mind) that could be used as a purely hypothetical question.
I don't think prototype is intended to be complex though its a gore-fest, very repetative every kill has like one animation.

Bumping thread though cause I heard Radical studio got closed.
