Proudspire Manor is MOULDY!

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 11:12 am

Black mould. All over the floors and walls. Well, that's the appearance I perceive, anyway. Just bought it in-game, just after I fiddled with all of the graphics settings and loaded up the DLC fix mod, and the HD-2K mod. Did anyone else experience anything like this? I've had this house several times before, and I've never seen it look this... Ugly.

Sounds like you're having some mod conflicts there.

I'm not really fond of that place. Doesn't feel very homey. It seems very cold.

This. It's my least favorite of the buy-able player homes. Breezehome and Honeyside are way better, IMO - way cheaper, too.

I get what you mean by "black mold" but I could also see it as black soot from years of burning wood inside the manor fireplaces. The floors could use a washing though. Keep the rough hewn texture but clean up the soiled portions.

Looks like "bumpy". Either you installed some "better solitude" mods, "bumpy stones", something similar, or tweaked your graphics card to increase "bump" effect. Not to mention the textures in high res also.

I had high res packs installed before the official one came out, but never installed "bumpy" mods, just because of this.

Don't we get a housecarl to do things like that? Not to mention a wife too!

It doesn't have a toilet, either.

On the issue of mods, if you clean up your graphics, you will see all the dirt...but I suggest it could be a mod thing. I installed one mod, and it made my game go foggy and smoky...so bad that when I walked into the bannered mare, I could barely see the bar...in Dragonreach, there was a very obvious layer of smoke in the place...that mod got ditched real quick.

It's supposed to be made of granite, and as others said above with years of indoor fireplaces etc it would get a bit of a gritty look.

That being said, those HD texture mods (not the Bethesta one, the home made ones) always look way too noisy and overworked, giving everything a speckled look. There's nothing "wrong" with your setup, that's the way it is meant to look with the mods you have installed.

To summarize:

"Black mould. All over the floors and walls. Well, that's the appearance I perceive, anyway. Just bought it in-game, just after I fiddled with all of the graphics settings and loaded up the DLC fix mod, and the HD-2K mod. Did anyone else experience anything like this? I've had this house several times before, and I've never seen it look this... http://www.flickr.co...s/76678166@N04/ Ugly."

I have the hi-res DLC loaded, along with the HD Texture DLC Fix v1_3b. The skyrim.ini is modified appropriately. I also have the Skyrim HD - 2k textures (full) v1_4 loaded. I have also modified the skyrimprefs.ini and skyrim.ini per the NVidia guideelines for those files, url here:

http://www.geforce.com/Optimize/Guides/five-fast-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-tweaks-guaranteed-to-make-your-game-look-even-better

My PC is an i7 920 cpu, stock clocks, 6 GB ram, ati (sapphire) 5870 1GB vram, stock clocks,win7 64 bit.

If this is indeed how Proudspire Manor is SUPPOSED to look, then I'd have to say that it is a bit OTT on price.... If anyone has any serious suggestions (like 'you need to decrease the UGrids...') or knowledgable advice, then please offer it.

I would suggest an entirely new home. That forsaken city does not even have ONE smelter.

Why would there be a smelter if there aren't any decent mines nearby to speak of (that I know of at least)
