My PS3 Console not working, anything I can do?

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 3:42 am

I am not a happy camper. I expect this crap from xbox (had to get 3 of them) but finally my PS3 has finally done the same thing. I played my 360 so much more, the PS3 was hardly played so I can't understand why I can't play any games. I am guessing the laser is not working since I can't even watch Blue Ray movies as well as not play any games on it. Is there anything I can do besides buying a new PS3? I don't really want to do that with PS4 suppose to come out soon. When is the PS4 coming out anyway? (Sorry for wall of text, I can't make paragraphs for some reason)

I would ask you to try and play some regular DVDs in it, but the problems you describe definitely making it sound like the laser diode went. You can send it into Sony and see if they will repair it under warranty. If the warranty on the console expired, they might charge you up to $150 to repair the console. Another problem is they might wipe the drive on the thing. All I know is that i'm not sending in my older style console since people have posted up on the forums they were sending them in to be repaired and getting the newer versions.

Is it still covered under warranty? Sounds like a stupid question I know but still, how old is it?

PS4 will come out laaate this year in USA, mid-2014 in the rest of the world.
Or so I hear.

Overall, definitely not worth buying a new PS3 unless you play it most days a week. If it can be shipped to sony and have them fix it or send a new one for free, then do it. Otherwise... Meh. Try to find a used PS3, if you must.

Yeah, I would wait and see what Sony has up their sleeve this month, and then go from there.

I forgot to mention it is the bigger version. Not the first model, but second or third model, where I can't play PS2 games. So the Warranty is done sadly. I don't want to pay $150 to get it fixed, might as well get a new one then. Was about to play Drakes Fortune. My son played Modern Warfare 3 and I mostly used it for Blu Ray movies, since I played Skyrim exclusively on the xbox. So it looks like no Drakes no drakes unless I get another PS3 damn. How easy is it to call Sony? Will I get a machine and wait for 1/2 hour to talk to someone live?

Mine just fried this morning

It said that the appropriate storage device could not be found

So I pulled out the hard drive, sprayed it with a can of air to get rid of any dust that might be there, put it back in and hoped that would work and that a connection just wasn't in tight enough.

No go.

Good thing is I shelled out the extra cash to Best Buy so I can just return the damn thing to them. Unfortunately it looks like I'll have the pain of downloading all that I've downloaded once again.
