ps3 install size not 5.5gb? : V

strange the back of the box said it had a 5.5gb mandatory install but it only displayed 4.38gb for me? so i tried deleting it and installing it again and this time it was only 2.59gb. I tried it a couple more times and they were all different2.7gb,2.9gb,3.2gb. I also noticed that the lower the installs are the muddier the textures and characters are. I'm still trying to see if i could get the full 5.5gb installed but the most it went to was the 4.38gb. I hope there is a patch to fix this, anyone else noticed this?

Yeah, I just checked the Game Data Utility and you're right mine is only at 4,368MB.
Strange, hopefully that's the reason the textures and everything have been looking not so great.

i second that, also i formatted my ps3 and the highest install this game is going up to is 3.5gb

at 4.3gb its a 1.2gb loss which could be a substantial quality boost, to notice anyways.

Does the install take place separately first time you run the game or in the background like oblivion? Only ask it may be that the full 5.5gb will come over time when you have explored more the area and seen more textures, locations etc??

i dont think so. my friend has already explored a large part of the game and the install size did not change at all. also the install is mandatory before you play the game

This is a very odd issue. This needs to be made clear.

Same issue. It has installed at 2442 mb, 2522 mb, then 4368. It also will not load @ 1080p. It loads at 480p if 720p is not checked in the display options. I am at a friends house using his equipment and all other games such as Arkham City or MW3 work just fine. I will see if I have the same issue when I get to my house in a few hours. I will update the thread after I test it.

Approximately 2.5GB is the size of all game files without the voice-file and 4.3GB is with with voices included (slight differences depending on which language).
The game files are always smaller than 5.5GB, probably it will just create an additional file for caching while you play and with that 5.5GB in total.
Strange that you get different install sizes. Seems like the game is skipping some parts :blink:

i say install it over again until you get 4.3gb,that's the most you can get.

Ok, finally made it home and my install sizes have been 2700, 2536, 3107, 3447 and 3854. :banghead:

I would have assumed that if you install it 50x you get the same thing 50x.

That's the correct size. The 5.5 also accounts for having space for your game saves.

Thanks sir! Mine is 4.38g too and I was wondering why. So far my playthrough on PS3 (I bought it on both consoles) is superb. No issues at all and it looks beautiful.

Hi guys, um i'm a little bit confused, wondering if i've done something or not done something here, but when i first popped the disk in to my PS3, it downloaded and update, installed it...and that was it, no mandatory install of ??gb, just nothing? And the game runs fine? I'll have to check the game file on the actual system tomorrow morning as i'm now at work, but have i missed something? Some setting perhaps? OR...am i just being a complete plank

Every time I install it, it installs a random amount. Im sure this is what is causing my problems. Do we have a definitive on what the install size should actually be?

just keep deleting the game and installing it over again until you get 4.3gb it took some time for me to get it.

Try this...install the game. Then load the game and play till you can create your first save...quit game and check your game data file size. It should be 4386 once you do that. That is what worked for me after 10-15 install / uninstalls. Good luck, I hope it works for you.

New to the forum here. So first of all hello to everyone. Writing from Denmark Europe

. Besides the other bugs that has been mentioned (don't need to mentioned those) this was the one main thing I've been wondering about. On my copy i read you need 4376MB of free space. This must be the mandatory install right? Or is it 5.5GB? Because when I installed the game it was 2,3GB'ish (can't remember the exact number hahaha) and this must be way to small. PS: Thank you Bethesda for making such and awsome game I really hope that many of these issues will be fixed.
