PS3 Release for Dawnguard - Thread #18

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 9:46 pm

Everyone needs to be civil about this subject. While it's perfectly fine to have a negative opinion about the lack of a solid release date, there is a way to express yourself in a civil and mature way. We do not want to see immature hostile posts or personal insults against other forum members.

It has been http://www.bethblog.com/2012/08/02/dawnguard-ps3-update/ that the PS3 version will be delayed a bit as they are still working to ensure acceptable performance on the platform.
Also we now have the news that the https://twitter.com/elderscrolls/status/239177833199583235 so hopefully Dawnguard for the PS3 is closer. (**Now released**)

Earlier in the month, we provided an update on Dawnguard's status for PS3.

It's been a few weeks, and we wanted to make sure everyone knows where we're at with Dawnguard. Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you're talking about sizable content like Dawnguard. We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone. The PS3 is a powerful system, and we're working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we’ve been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content.

We wish we had a more definitive answer right now. We understand the frustration when the same content is not available on all platforms. When we have an update, we will certainly let you know. We deeply appreciate all the time and support you have given us, and we’ll keep doing our best to return that.

Carrying on the discussion from the previous thread, instead of bringing up the PS3 exclusives (Like Uncharted, GOW3, etc.):

I'd like to cite the Assassin's Creed franchise as a stellar example of how well a cross platform game can become, with each installment getting more refined on the PS3 side starting with AC2, getting better with AC2 Brotherhood and becoming as good if not better in terms of "PS3 vs X360" graphics once AC2 Redemption came out. It's as if the developers were delivering a better product as they gained experience and learned how to develop on the PS3 platform better.

I can't wait to see how well Assassin's Creed 3 will come out and I'd love to see how each version will come out when compared side by side with each other! On a side note, if AC3 comes out (Due the end of October) before any of the Skyrim DLCs for the PS3 due to any further "delays", I will pretty much just focus on AC3 and just belay any Skyrim purchases until the "GOTY" or "Ultimate Edition" of Skyrim comes out for the PS3, that way I can enjoy all of the Skyrim DLCs minus the failed release date expectations.

With all the speculation about the PSN maintenance, ooh is Dawnguard coming etc etc I still say I doub't it.

Patch 1.07 had the DG trophy support removed and it would be unusual for a DLC to include the trophies, firstly because it will have to have been recoded somewhat to have them added. Secondly there is probably a reason that trophies arrive in a prep patch / update.

I'd expect to see some sort of update before DLC like DG wen't live.

No I'm not an expert so this is just imo based on past experience and felt I may as well post something with 4 threads over in PS3 issues getting swept up as DG discussions when one at least didn't seem to be but nvm eh.

^ Yup for DG to come out we will need another patch but as we know it PS3 support has well stop.

People post as if Bethesda is intentionally holding back the PS3 version of Dawnguard. It's bad sure but if Bethesda is having problems getting it stable there isn't much they can do about it. If they aren't saying anything new it's because nothing has changed.

1. What does Bethesda have to gain from a PS3 exclusive DLC?
2. This just enforces what you're all [censored]ing about, platform unfairness.

Stop acting like a brat who can't get his new toy.

Late response, my apologies.

@1-They can try pulling their tried and true solution once again. That being not worrying about getting promised(and it was promised) DLC out to the PS3 on time(and it was promised to be on a same time frame of release as other platforms), because the plan to lay a GotY on us down the road for another $60 bucks. That way they get us the content and get it to us at the 'same time' as other platforms-using their reasoning anyways.

@the rest-You my friend better just strap on in tight, cause this whole mess isn't going to get any better any faster until Bethesda gives some real definite answers and stop dancing about dropping double-speak. Ppl are going to complain as is their right as customers. Sure some are going over the top, but that's their right too as long as they keep it clean imo.

Too be honest, the only reason I go so mad is far cry 3 being pushed back. nothing new on market at the moment and was kinda hoping DG would keep me entertained till I get my hands on it.

But with the messing thats going on, and the general treatment of the fans it's very hard not to get annoyed.

Thanks for the tip on Assassin's Creed. After reading this it occurred to me that I only played the 1st one. Guess I have some catching up to do while I wait for DLC!

Yeah I have to agree. And also how is it if we get something exclusive or for less it is suddenly unfair. PC gets mods, Xbox got kinect and dlc support, and ps3 players got what? A very buggy, laggy game at launch and the possibility of never getting an expansion or dlc. The same problems occurred with Bethesda's previous games on the ps3 and it's unbelievable that this wasn't fully anticipated in the beginning. And what's worse is the fact that Bethesda blatantly lied to the Ps3 players when proclaiming how they gave the ps3 version more attention and the problems were addressed.

Why is everyone wanting DLC for the PS3 when the main games DOESNT work? Imagine the state of the game if the PS3 had both DLC's released now...

I don't want DLC at this point n time...I want the game that I paid £39.99 on 11/11/11 to work as it should...ONCE they do this (snigger sorry but it aint happening) then yes I want DLC.

As many others say, I cannot see any more large updates for the PS3 version of Skyrim, I cannot see Danwguard or any other DLC being released for the PS3 when the MAIN game doesn't work.

In a way, Bethesda is kind of shooting it's own foot. If they had told people right off that there were performance issues with the DLC and that we would have to wait longer than the 30 days, people wouldn't have gotten AS angry AS quickly. By now, we'd start to get annoyed, even if they had been regularly updating us.

But something on another part of the gamesas site got me thinking.

They do developer's diaries for a lot of games...and gamesas even has Dev Diaries for Dishonored and probably Hearthfire if I'm not mistaken, actively floating around.

So I have a suggestion for gamesas. Dawnguard Dev Diaries. Make them available on PSN or something like that. If getting information about something to the public actually required a lot of resources or time, I'd understand more, but this is the age of the internet. Let us into the process. Let us hear, from the men and women who MAKE this game, what's making this such a problem and how they're going about fixing it. Instigate community dialogue.

I also agree with whoever it was on the other thread who suggested that Sony went to Bethesda to offer to help (read: take over and fix it) and not the other way around. I begin to think that Bethesda is perfectly happy to just flounder around and look spastic than admit a pretty pervasive problem in their core structure.

Bethesda, your marketing department needs work. Fast < Quality

It's also worth noting, by the way, that the creation engine they used for Skyrim is supposed to be a new system...which could explain some degree of the PS3-porting problem. They probably hadn't worked with it yet to the extent theyshould have before undertaking such an ambitious application. Oh yeah...Bethesda...you might want to tell us what's going on before we all decide our speculations are just fact. Though I admit I find it incredibly unnerving that if you play the PC version of Skyrim, open the console and type "help" there are console commands for Pip-Boy Radio, VATS mode, and other very obvious elements from Fallout.

Me personally, like i've said before, i just want the stuff that should have been in the game from 11/11/11 that i think was held back so it could 'brand new content!!!' later on. Being able to craft ammo(as a player that ALWAYS makes ranged attacks one of my character's major skills), having access to crossbows, the full extent of the dragon bone gear line, an actual perk tree for werewolves; stuff of that sort. Bethesda can keep all of the vampire lord stuff as far as i am concerned. And i think its beyond shabby that as stated by Tweet Hines, that content of this nature is being locked behind DLC. Especially after said content was promised and promised in a timely manner.

In a way, Bethesda is kind of shooting it's own foot. If they had told people right off that there were performance issues with the DLC and that we would have to wait longer than the 30 days, people wouldn't have gotten AS angry AS quickly. Where exactly was it promised that all three systems wouldn't only receive every released add-on, but they will all receive them at the exact same time? They never mentioned anything in regards to time frames for DLCs and never could of because one of the systems, in this case the Xbox, acquires the first two DLCs earlier due to an exclusive deal. So just for that alone they wouldn't have promised anything regarding release dates even if they excluded the Xbox from what they were saying.

Me personally, like i've said before, i just want the stuff that should have been in the game from 11/11/11 that i think was held back so it could 'brand new content!!!'

That, in itself, is an entirely different argument altogether and one that can be made by every person that purchased Skyrim, regardless of the platform.

The thing is, it wasn't promised, users are confusing instant gratification and entitlement with the things Bethesda actually said.

it probably will be, but skyrim was boring for me after a while when I finished it too.

Everything gets boring eventually.

But while other PS3 players are wondering if dawnguard will be out, I'll be playing AC3 and my assassin will be on a boat ordering men to shoot down British ships xD

I played dawnguard on PC. It's not really all it's hyped up to be honestly.

Skyrim is the only TES game I have not replayed which says something imo.

AC3 is looking great the Anvil engine is superb, Borderlands 2 is just around the corner with NFS Most Wanted set to svck my life away.

Once these games land Skyrim will probably be getting wiped but I'll be keeping half an eye on what happens with Bethesda on the support "HAH" front but I'm pretty sure it's going to be the same old dance.
