Ps3 Saved files question

Post » Sat Jan 19, 2013 6:40 pm

I keep hearing of people having their old files erased after starting a new character, so I was wondering if there is any kind of bug I should be aware of. I mean to start a new character myself, but really would hate to lose my other one.

Being on the PS3, I would suggest this:

Make a new account on the PS3, it is more simple and organized.

Don't overwrite saves
There are a couple points in the game where EVEN if autosave is off. A save is still made automatically.(and its not titled autosave). The first is just before character creation. The second I can recall is during the quest http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Hitting_the_Books just before entering The Caller's room. The saves always use the same slots overwriting whatever was there before. There may be others but I can't recall them off the top of my head.

So what happens is people use that first save from just before character creation, and continually overwrite it. Then when they go start a new game and wham! it gets overwritten. This is not an issue exclusive to the PS3. The safest thing to do is buy a USB thumb drive and simply transfer the latest saves from the old character to the new one.

On the PC you can simply create a folder to store old character saves.

yup - people have to realize there are two kinds of saves: Auto saves and Manual saves

Manual saves = permanent save file
Auto saves = only records the last 3 or so... After that, it overwrites the eldest of that sequence.

Do NOT rely on auto saves! They're NOT permanent!
