PS3 trouble, never seen this one before

Right, so tonight I'm enjoying some Starhawk like I usually do, and suddenly my PS3 slim shuts off. Not sure what had happened, I tried to turn it on again. Nothing. Puzzled at this point, I unplugged it and moved to a different outlet. The red light lit up as it usually does once the system is plugged in, but upon pressing the power button it just immediately turns itself off. I tried again, same result. No lights are blinking on the system, it seems to just be booting up normally, then it shuts itself off quite suddenly.

I've never heard nor seen this kind of failure. The only thing that I can think of would cause this kind of thing would be a bad power cable or a bad power supply. Right now I'm leaning towards the cable, seeing as it's not giving me a light or anything. That and the fact that I have three Mynoc... Errr, cats, that seem to like chewing cables. It has some bite marks, but I don't think they've chewed through to the actual wire.

Has anyone else had this happen? I'm picking up a new cable tomorrow to see if it's the issue.

It could very likely be that way, or, in some bizzarre chance, maybe the outlet has suddenly gone bad. Admittedly, in the 5-6 years I've owned my PS3, I've never had any outlet trouble. But it's either an internal problem with the system's power supply, the power cable, or the outlet. If it's a new PS3, it should be under warranty still.

I know some of the non slim models have a hardware issue that can make them do.

I don't think it's the outlet, since it's done it on two others. And sadly my warranty is either out or almost out.

Sounds similar to what happened to mine, but that was the old model. It would give me 2-3 seconds of noise and lights, then shut itself off. I was told it was an internal power supply problem if I recall correctly. Sony (eventually) replaced it. That one got the old yellow light problem after only six months. They replaced it again, and I sold the second replacement. I couldn't be bothered with it.
