PS3 Unacceptable TEXTURE POP UP

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 7:38 pm

I've bought ps3 version of rage and stop playing after few hours.
The INCREDIBLE texture popping up is too much distracting to enjoy or even play this game.

When they will fix it? Is it possibile to do that? will they release a PATCH? Please answer me beacuse i dunno anything about programmation on console/pc...

P.s: if they dont ----> Take back Rage to the store IMMEDIATLY.

Support this 100%.
I'm still hoping that they'll release a patch that would allow a full installation. However, I strongly doubt that they'll bother with it. Which is a shame as this is such a good game.

Is incredible that after 5 years of development id soft release a game with this bug...Carmack said the ps3 use every core to aviod txture popping...thats ridicolous...
Next time Id Soft will works on a game ill wait to buy and anolise it deep. (no more Day 1 buy for those svckers :swear: )

From what I've seen it's not a bug. There are videos on youtube that show Rage being ran on a PS3 with an SSD and the pop in was gone, which leads me to think that it has more to do with the compression rate of the textures. They had to compress the textures down to 8GB because Sony actually doesn't allow installations above the 5GB (id got 8GB limit after talks with sony). This is the reason why I think a full isntallation/partial decompression of the textures should fix it.

It's ironic that there are tons of articles with official words about there not being any texture pop up in the PS3 version because the game uses "every SPU core", but still the game ends up having the worst texture pop up I have ever seen in any console game.

Also I think it's unprofessional not to give any official statement about any patch or some sort of explanation.

lol, In know what you mean. The reviews are also ignoring it. Gamespot said the game had "technically proficient graphics", really? More like "practically broken graphics"
I also agree with the last statement, I'm not buying into the fact that they didn't know that the game had these issues. Dead Island had a disastrous release across all platforms but at least those developers quickly released a statement that they were working on patches, this awkward silence from id/Bethesda makes me think that they're not going to do anything about this at all.

Definitely unprofessional. It's so aggravating that they won't even say they're not going to fix it. Just tell us so we can sell our game. I started out being sad that the pop in was there, now I'm just mad that they won't say anything about it, yet they're reassuring PC users that they're fixing it for them... UNACCEPTABLE.

Let me add the the SSD makes it run fine...unfortunately they run you 350 bucks... 350 plus 60 for rage is 410 bucks...no game is worth that damn much.

I've registered on this forum to make one comment. As with the developers of this game, I won't be wasting my time communicating on the forum (or play testing this game) aside from saying this. This is an official complaint to Bethesda Software.

I was looking forward to this game more than anything this year. This issue of texture pop in (as seen by myself whilst playing on PS3) is totally unacceptable and has lead to massive disappointment, not only for me but thousands of other customers. It's completely distracting and totally unavoidable. I haven't even seen it mentioned in official reviews so there has been obvious deception regarding this problem. I haven't paid my hard earned cash to buy a product that is incomplete and unfinished. Let me inform you that if it were not for this issue, I would have rated the game a perfect 10.0 It has the potential to be absolutely stunning, ground breaking and GOTY. But with such a distracting glaring fault literally pushing you out from emersion, the beautiful world may as well not exist, and gameplay may as well be a chore.

My final comment is this; if this issue isn't fixed patched and rectified on Playstation 3 within 28 days of North American release, I will be returning my product to the store for a full refund. I will also refrain from future Bethesda published and/or id software developed purchases without hesitation.

Thank you in advance of fixing this problem and thank you also for releasing an unfinished game.

It doesn't make any sense. Me, along with a buch of other have all contacted id via tiwtter and email and have yet to hear back from them. We just want word that they will fix it. That's all.

I found this to be a big enough issue to create an account on Bethesda's forums to try and find out whats going on here. It really is a shame, because this game is SOOO awesome, and otherwise looks SOOO beautiful. Aside from the massive popping of textures, this is probably the best looking console game Ive ever played. really hope something get done about this. I thought with a 30 minute, 8GB install stuff like this wouldnt happen. I also though load times would be alot shorter than they are, but at least its not like Duke Nukem load times... that alone, (not to mention the horrible gameplay) was enough to make me stop playing it.

Apparently, The PC version just got an official patch that fixed any pop in. Hopefully they are now on to working on the console problems. All we ca do is pray this is true and keep bugging them on Twitter and keep up the complaints on these forums. The more people complain here, the more they are likely to notice us. So bring on the RAGE people!!!

This problem is definitely noticeable. It would be nice if they would address the issue. I don't agree that it ruins the game. It's really not all that slower than the human eye would take to focus on details at different distances in real life. We are just used to game software being faster than the human eye. I remember when the first auto focus cameras came out with the slogan, "Only the human eye is faster." This was another way of saying it was slow.
I am getting into the game and am glade that it seems to have a lot of potential replay value. So I am confident the issue will improve. I have decided to upgrade my hard drive to one with a large buffer to see if it helps. I'm not ready to try SSD yet. In my opinion, the tech is still not perfected. Also the price is high for performance that will degrade over time.

On my console textures pop up 1-2 seconds to late and thats more than enough time for me to notice it and I think you would notice it in real life too if things was all fuzzy for 1-2 sec. each time you moved your head. Maybe if the textures faded in it wouldn't be so noticeable, but the way they pop up makes it real obvious.
That being said pop ups obviously doesn't ruin the game as a whole, just the visual side of it. The framerate seems stable and I haven't noticed any gameplay bugs so the game itself is very playable.

When we play a game our eyes only have to focus on one distance, the screen. The game does all the focusing for us. The texture loading in the game is not related to distance as much as it is to the panning and scanning. if you are in the center of a circular room in real life, Your eyes would not have to adjust as you looked around the room. In this game you see the textures load as you look around in such a room. The load goes from blurred to sharp; mimicking although poorly, the human eye adjusting to different distances. I'm not saying that there's no problem.

What really pisses me off is going on Twitter and seeing countless updates for PC. They are right there for the PC users but are pretty much giving console owners the finger. I mean, this pop in issue is HUGE. Never have I seen pop in this bad, even from one of the [censored]tiest games I've played. They HAVE to be aware of all the upset ps3 owners like us right now.

And why the hell Bethesda keep silent? What a stupid community management policy?! It would be much calmer here if company just said that it aware about texture problem with PS3 version and it's working hard to solve the problem.
The aproximate patch release date would also be nice addition.
What your community managers are doing, Bethesda?

Take a look at the boards for Brink and you'll soon realise that it's folly to have high expectations from Bethesda. They seemingly have a talent for forcing developers to release unfinished games and then leaving it to the developers to clear up the mess. Poor id.
