PS3 user's should get all skyrim DLC for free

Post » Sun Aug 19, 2012 5:40 am

so i had a boat load of problems when i first got skryim everytime they patch something it seems to break something else, patch 1.7 is a great example! I get horse mounted combat at the expense of not being able to go into water as the game crashes every time i do! Your telling me that not one of your testers tried going into the water??? WTF Bethesda I shell out 60 dollars for a broken game that you just seems to break more and more I honestly think PS3 users should have the option of a refund or at least get all the DLC for free and the fact that Dawngaurd came out in June for other platforms and is still nowhere to be seen on PS3 what a joke you really think when it comes out PS3 users will shell out another 15 dollars for something thats prolly broken too.... whos with me

The problem is more with the console itself than the game. But yes, they should have got it right. Won't be getting anything for free though. They are a company, here to make money and as long as there are people willing to pay for DLC then nothing will be made free.

There's nothing wrong with the PS3 Bethesda just had the brilliant idea of optimizing the game for Xbox...Forgetting the PS3 works differently

100% false, Bethesda have had 7 years to get it right and have only done the bare minimum required to make the game run.

Completely untrue and false statement! The PS3 is completely adequate to run Skyrim decently, however it was coded to run on x86 architecture ( the 360 ) and basically given a direct port of that code over to the PS3 which is of a different ( but just as robust if not more so ) architecture than the 360. A flawed but simple anology is trying to make diesel fuel run in a gasoline powered automobile...it wasn't designed for it. The same with Skyrim for the PS3, Beth sloppily ported the code over, not caring at all if it even worked correctly. This statement that the PS3 is the issue, has been debunked multiple times, and frankly it's getting old hearing that it's somehow the PS3 hardware that is responsible for Beth's complete foul up ( once again ) on the PS3 version of a game.

EDIT: That said, Beth isn't going to be giving away any free DLC to PS3 users...it will be lucky at all if any DLC even makes it to the PS3 as a paid option. But even then, given DLC usually makes Beth's games run worse...do you even want it?

PS3 users definitely deserve to get the DLC before us (PC) for the next DLC. They don't deserve any more of this treatment.

So why did Beth choose to use x86 architecture for skyrim?

Because that is what the architecture of the 360 ( the lead platform ) basically is and it is what Beth who has been coding PC games for years is most comfortable with coding for. The cell processor of the PS3 is different in the way it processes code, thus...it cannot effectively work with the x86 based Skyrim code. However, the cell processor ( of the PS3 ) if it were utilized correctly has tremendous power ( especially for a 6+ year old system ), but since it isn't utilized properly at all by Skyrim ( because it cannot ) it just suffers...it "sputters" along trying to run on fuel it wasn't designed to utilize. If Beth had "refined" the fuel ( code ) and made it so the PS3 "engine" ( using my car anology ) could utilize it correctly, then Skyrim on PS3 would run MUCH better. Murt and maybe a few others could give you an even more detailed explanation if they should choose to do so, but that's the basic truth of the matter.
