PS3 or Xbox 360? Please help

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 7:38 pm

Let's not make a big thing out of this. The fact is my PS3 is more powerful than my XBOX 360. I don't want to burn out my PS3 playing this but will my experience on my Xbox 360 be choppier or have lower quality graphics?
Thanks for your time!

I play on the PC, but I have heard the PS3 version currently has a problem that manifests after the save file reaches a certain size (apparantly around the 6MB region - the game becomes laggy to the point of unplayable).

I have a PS3 and a 360, and I can say the graphics are slightly better on the 360. Everything just looks more organic. I think the PS3 port was not "the best". Not that it is bad by any stretch...I just prefer the 360 version. You will not be disappointed.

Xbox 360 have around double frame rate then PS3 in Skyrim.

No offence. But PS3 does have better graphics on PS3 exclusive titles. Not by much, but for sure.
On EVERY cross platform game, Xbox 360 is better, due to an overall stronger and more reliable and better hardware.
PS3s complicated hardware does allow it to shine however, but it demands an obcene effort in programming.
No game studio out there take the time to fully optimize their cross platform games for PS3.
And thats why Xbox, overall, is a much stronger console then PS3.
But, the PS3 does perform better on the games that is specifically designed for it.

Its already reported by PS3 users that Skyrim is laggy and choppy, while for Xbox 360 users its running very smooth.

Just take Battlefield 3. Xbox 360 have 60 FPS while PS3 users have 30 FPS. Thats the general difference in 99% of cross platform titles on the console market.

Its Sonys fault, not yours. But Xbox is a better console. But only due to the fact that its easier to work with, have solid hardware and as such, can easier be maximized, and cross platform games is always better on xbox.

As an individual platform, the PS3 is a little stronger then the Xbox. Thats for sure. BUT, again, due to how complicated it is to maximize software on the PS3, every, and I really mean, every, cross platform game on the market is better on the Xbox 360 then on PS3.
I have yet to see a single review of any game for the past 5 years that places PS3 higher then Xbox on cross platform titles.
But, again, PS3s hardware is better. But what good does that do when its never used due to Sonys absurd thinking that their way is the highway, and making things far more complicated then it have to be.

Visit the PS3 harware and software issues forum and read up on the lag problem:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/forum/182-playstation-3/

The PS3 game is totally unplayable once your save file gets into double-digits. I bought it, put in 45+ hours, and then had to quit and return it to the store because playing at 6-8 frames per second was just unacceptible.

Bottom line: Do not under any circumstances purchase the PS3 game in its current condition.

if you want a actual Skyrim experience. get it for PC (if your PC can handle it)

otherwise i would say just get it for whatever system you want to.
they are both inferior to the PC.

since the PC has the modding community. which make's the game ever lasting unlike the Console versions who just have to rely on DLC's

Still i would go for Xbox360 if your PC cant handle it. Because Microsoft tends to make deals with gaming company's to get DLC earlier then other platforms.

(Not sure if Bethesda made a deal with Microsoft so its maybe not true)

if u want the true experience you hook up the console on a 60inc. plasma tv with a surround system add some cold beers/snacks and a comfortable sofa, thats 20times more epic then a little pc monitor.

I have it for PC and Xbox.

I can run the game on Ultra with everything maxed on the PC.
The xbox version looks slightly worse then PC setting on High.
And believe me, not all PC users is playing skyrim on High settings.

I find the Xbox 360 version much better then PC version. There is only one drawback, and thats the mods. Which you dont need as much for the Xbox to run perfectly but you need for the PC.
You dont have any crashes or hardware issues either.

The only reason to ever pickup skyrim on PC over Xbox is for Mods only. if you never plan to use mods, you should buy it for the Xbox, since skyrim, honestly, was made for the Xbox. Even the developers have acknowledged this.
Also, the first DLC will be released weeks before other platforms, on the Xbox, then PC and PS3.

You can take your mods and play this game forever, but before you have actually tried it for yourself on the xbox, not watched some skimmy youtube films, you dont know.
I have placed skyrim on ultra beside my big TV playing skyrim on Xbox and I can tell you, the difference is in shadows and some drawing distance, but not much in textures etc.

Its absurdly beautiful on the Xbox, I was very sceptical after playing it on ultra for the PC, but after the first minute on the xbox I knew which platform Im playing this title on.
And its definately not on the PC.

I think it might be illegal to compare PS3 and XBOX360 in a rational manner. I would keep your passport handy just in case.

I'm a PS3 owner, but I think consensus does state 360 version looks cleaner, frankly it could be in lowres 800x600 on a PC and I'd still love it.

However the savegame issue hasn't been resolved, not everyone has it, but its worrying enough that if I had both, I would have opted for the 360 version (and obviously the PC version if my PC could cope).

Thanks again. I really figured the PS3 was the safe bet for a smoother experience over the 360. This will probably be the death of my Xbox.

If you want the truly honourable nordic experience however, you will need to hook your rig up to that very same 60 inch plasma television with High-Definition audio and a wireless 360 controller.
You get the lovely graphics, console and mods of the PC with a grand viewing centre as well!

Have you even read what people are telling you?
Its opposite around dude.

The ′Skyrim on PS3 is hardly playable while on the Xbox its a beaitufl experience.
Not only does the PS3 have half frame rate, it also have an issue with save game files causing the game to stutter incredible.

Pick it up for Xbox, dont do yourself the disfavor of taking it for PS3.

And again, there have not been a cross platform game in the history of Xbox and PS3, where the PS3 have been better.
Xbox versions are always better on cross platform due to how the hardware is done.
PS3 hardware on paper have nicer features, but its so extremly complicated to get the juice out of it that none bothers, apart from PS3 exclusive titels.
And even t hen, the Xbox 360 video card is very strong. A year ahead of what was available on the PC market when it arrived.
Today, less so.

And since its Microsofts baby, And Direct X is what causes developers to be able to develop graphics...guess who gets the best deals?
Directxbox ofc.

Sony can never compete with Microsoft cause A: They are not the developwer of Windows, or Direct X, and B: Microsoft as a whole, is more focused on hardware and software, and on one specific niche.
Sony is focused on too many fields to have the punch to compete with Microsofts upcoming Xbox.

Next generation Xbox will blow Sony out of the window and the discussions that are now held, cause its very tight, wont happen again.

Where did you get this from? Thats a rather redicilous statement to be honest. The police academy is that way. Good luck.

I'm sorry, but even as PS3 really devoted fan I have to disgree with the false sentiments about the Xbox. The old Xbox's wer flawed yes, with the dreaded RROD, but after seeing the new Slim versions, I am impressed with them. My mates who have them do not experience any problems, in fact, from my point of view anyone who experiences any problems with their Xbox is at fault. I am actually considering buying an Xbox, not for Skyrim, since it works fine on my PS3, but just to play with mates.

I'm a very big PC gamer, but most of my friends play the XBOX. As such, I've been making an attempt to switch over and join them. Since thats the case, my experiences may help solidify what others have said. Normally, I'd buy a game for both XBOX and PC so I could play both (as graphics are almost always better on the PC), but with Skyrim I feel the graphics are quite good. So good, in fact, that I dont plan to purchase it for the PC. That said, I've come across three problems with the performance of Skyrim on an XBOX. Perhaps its just mine, a XBOX 360 S 4GB, but others might be able to chime in and we can see if its a known issue.

1) Loading times between locations/buildings can take some time. 3-15 seconds is my experience. I've tried it from the DVD and from having it installed on an HD, didnt seem to make any difference.
2) The game seems to have trouble bringing up the load/save screens when theres several to access. After about 50 or so I've been able to notice a difference. Now that I'm up to 300ish it is certainly lagging. That is, of course, simple to fix, but I'm lazy :(
3) Third person view seems to have a slower response time than first person view. You know how you can have input lag on PC when your DPI settings / mouse acceleration are not correct? Kinda feels like that. I use first person view so its not a problem, but to me it seemed to lag when in 3rd.

Don't waste your time with either.

Get yourself a decent PC.

There's so much more you can do with a PC, plus you get

the benefit of the Modding Community.

Did someone actually say the Xbox has double the framerate of the PS3?

Xbox runs at 30fps for this game. PS3 runs at 30fps for this game.
If the Xbox had double the FPS, then it would either be running at 60fps, which is nigh on impossible for Skyrim, or the PS3 would be running at 15fps, which would be extremely laggy.
