As you are likely aware of by now, Sony intends to announce the PS4 this evening. Obviously, I have no particular insight or 'dirt' on the contents of the announcement. I would assume that they will say something to the effect of "we will have the ps4 out by such and such a date, and it's gonna ROCK!"
However:
I would imagine that games like Skyrim had a significant influence on development of the console, especially in terms of HW. Consider how revolutionary Skyrim is - a single player game of such size and graphical complexity that it rivals the largest MMO's in terms of content.
I would bet that, as a result, Sony is anticipating more games of this sort will be developed, and has made HW architecture choices commensurate with the goal of supporting such advances in gaming for a considerable period of time, in order to maximize the effective product lifetime of the HW platform. To that end, it would not surprise me to see very interesting and flexible options for adding or swapping out memory and graphics mezzanine cards for the PS4. Thus there would be multiple expansion slots, much like a PC. I would also venture to speculate on improved support for internet and wireless connectivity, motion sensors, and very sophisticated HW busses with an advanced hierarchical architecture.
What do y'all think? Again, this is just a speculation thread and makes no promises regarding the actual content of the announcement. It is the relationship between the announcement and TES5, it's expansions and TES6 that is the relevant focus of this thread.
